Topic: Best Pink Floyd Singer Posted: January 21 2006 at 14:01 |
Roger Waters any day!... thats why Pulse and delicate sound of thunder aren't good, they lack Roger's singing. Of course, nothing beats Waters, Gilmore and Wright sharng vocals between them, like on DSOTM etc. but if any it should be Waters

I was always fond of Rick Wright's singing efforts.

The first music I identified consciously as being prog back in 1971 was 'Summer 68', so Rick Wright has a special place for me.
From the list I voted Gilmour. IMO, his voice is close to Justin Hayward's - another great singer, always underrated.

Gilmour without any doubt, his calmed voice is perfect for the atmospheric music that Pink Floyd created.
Roger Waters did a great job also singing his parts.
The guys knew what they did, each one sings in the parts that are better for their voices, but check for example "In the Flesh Live" Roger has to hire Doyle Bramhall II that has a similar range to Dave, because he isn't able to replace Gilmour, but Dave sings most of Floyd songs in his solo albums and with Floyd when Roger left.

What , how can it be that Gilmour has almost 80% of the votes, he has a 'pretty' voice I'll admit, but boring and uninspirering as hell!
Waters is the Pink Floyd vocalist, he suceeds in communicating feelings and emotions through his voice, for instance the way these lines are sung (from Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking) :
The kids caught bronchitis The space heater ran out of diesel One weekend a friend from the East Rot his soul Stole your heard I said "f**k it then Take the kids back to town Maybe I'll see you around"
No vocalist could have done it better!
and these (from The Wall)
Hey you, out there on the road Always doing what you're told Can you help me Hey you, out there beyond the wall Breaking bottles in the hall Can you help me Hey you, don't tell me there's no hope at all Together we stand, divided we fall
It sends shivers down my spine!
A vocalist should care very little about perfection and singing it correctly, and only care about deliver vocals with as much emotion and passion as possible!

Yes. If The Wall and The Final Cut stand up as decent albums at all, it's because of the incredible conviction Waters sings with. His delivery is much more compelling than Gilmour's...

Gilmour! Beautiful voice. Syd Barrets is pretty good too, though.

Gilmour is definetely the best. He has such a great voice, one of
the best of all time. Waters and Wright are not too far behind,
both are incredible singers too. Barret was a decent singer, but
just doesn't compare with the others.

Nick Mason never sang for Pink Floyd. Richard Wright did however, and in my opinion, is their most talented singer. I love his voice on Echoes and Summer 68. David Gilmour's voice is the most recognizable voice in the Pink Floyd sound.

Gilmour pour moi, aussi. I don't really care for Syd's heavy accent, and Roger's odd voice doesn't suit everything.

I think Alan Parsons other friend Arthur Brown would have been an interesting lead singer for the band. The God of Hellfire!

How can I vote in this poll if my prefered Floyd vocalist isn't here?
Well, i prefer the Rick Wright's voice... not so sweet-sugar like David, and not so acid-bitter like Roger...

- Roger Waters (he's amazing on Animals, so paranoid)
- Richard Wright (Echoes)
