Yeah it's the former alright, definitely

Right you are.

'Spirit Of The Radio' sounds like it would come from a very 'special' person if you catch my drift.
Doesn't have a nice flow it. Sounds awkward. ;)

There's also Spirit of Radio, told on Exit...Stage Left
My remastered CD copy of Exit...Stage Left says "The Spirit of Radio", so I guess that misprint has been corrected on later releases.

I like the Poverty's No Crime version. Also, Finnish Prog/metal band Wintersun covered YYZ for a show they did when I saw them in Toronto. It wasn't bad, but they didn't play the whole thing? Thought that was weird.

My guess would be that the reason is Rush's music is quite demanding to play, especially the drums/percussion. A lot of bands wouldn't want to make asses of themselves. Lol. I think for years if you could Handle drumming La Villa Strangiato
It was considered the bench mark of drumming period. Is tough man.

A few more that show up within my collection.

Skid Row covers What You're Doing on their B-Sides Ourselves EP.
Poverty's No Crime covered Distant Early Warning on One In A Million.
The Bad Plus covered Tom Sawyer on Prog.

Disturbed used to cover "YYZ" in concert, so I heard.

Part of the reason for other bands' supposed reluctance for covering Rush may be Rush's reaction to this album. Reportedly they weren't too happy to be a subject of such an album, because they viewed tributes as some kind of obituaries for dead bands.

Or maybe it was just the hideous cover, I don't know.

Anthrax have done a cover this year "Anthem", Primus have done "La Villa Strangiatio", Dream Theater have done 3 or four, and there is 2 covers cd "Working Man". Mike Portnoy have done with his band a hour set of Rush covers on DVD. There's  not a lot of coverr of them, the reason is unknown to me.
Music is the refuge of souls ulcerated by happiness.

I take it you don't like it.
It's alright - quite simplified from the Rush version.

^^ yes and yes. I have to admit, I'm Tempted to cough it up...the $$ I mean.
Love Rush a lot and I know I'd certainly get a lot out of both those items, especially considering the sound equipment I have. I'm in no panic. Both items are fairly new on the market, so they aren't going anywhere yet. ;)
