IMHO the greatest moment in IQ's history.  and they had many, many great moments.

I feel sorry to leave behind great stuff like Stardust, OK Computer, and This Strange Engine though.
Honestly, I glommed on to those much later after their release.  Subterranea just mesmerized me for months.

IQ > Fates
Music has always been a matter of energy to me. On some nights I believe that a car with the needle on empty can run 50 more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio. Hunter S Thompson

Is that Pain Of Salvation's debut album?! That's an excellent debut. Smile
My problem isn't about Pain of Salvation's debut as such, but about Pain of Salvation the band. Both the progressive metal-musical approach and Daniel Gildenlöw vocal-histrionics rub me the wrong way.

I voted for Fates Warning...they created a timeless album.

That said, I love 'OK Computer' as well.

I'm voting for Radiohead over Godspeed. Five other favourites of mine from 1997 of the both Prog (whatever that is) and not Prog (whatever that mneans) from the year are:
Art Zoyd - Häxan
Stereolab - Dots and Loops
Portishead - Portishead
Robert Wyatt - Shleep
Björk - Homogenic

prefer the sink to the gutter
keep our sand-castle virtues
content to be a doer

Went with some live PT but would have picked Art Zoyd, Fig Leaf, Sinkadus and The Smell of Incense ahead of the rest.

(I quite liked Discipline - Unfolded Like Staircase about fifteen years ago too. But haven't listened to it since)
There's something happening here, What it is ain't exactly clear... For what it's worth, I only own three albums in this poll:- Radiohead; Genesis: & Dream Theater

Oh, sorry. I hadn't read your original post. Smile

F# A# Infinity for me, with Ok Computer as a runner-up.

Also, I'm surprised that Homogenic isn't on here Smile  (I know Bjork is a more contentious inclusion, but she IS on the site)

I could have picked some other stuff, but this could be my only chance to honour a particular band...

I'll go with Fates Warning - A Pleasant Shade of Gray. I think John Arch is the more impressive singer, yet I tend to like FW with Ray Alder, better. It could be because, I came across with FW's music quite belatedly (in 2005 or so). Also, frankly, FW have never been one of my favourite prog metal bands. They are one of the pioneers and giants of the sub-genre, for sure. I respect them, and I love at least one of their albums. Haha. That's better than nothing, huh? Embarrassed

Thanks, but I have to give Wikipedia the credit for the choice of albums in this series of polls. Embarrassed
