Oh come on, you don't have to be so pedantic. Everybody knows that worthless theories about 9/11 and the moon landings are what people mean when they derisively say "conspiracy theories".

The people who believe in conspiracy theories and indigo children are the ones who have reached stupid conclusions. And considering you're a hard-line atheist, I'd think you'd be more concerned about the impact of faulty reasoning on the downward spiral of humanity. |
This line of 'faultless' reasoning is confident enough it seems to dispense entirely with the remotest possibility that any person(s) anywhere at any time have ever been found guilty of conspiring against a third party and suffered punitive action as a result. ? Collusion ain't restricted to tiresome fantasies about how very famous people met their deaths or if we ever did really walk on the moon.

Okay, Henry's making the same basic point I made, but since he has bigger balls than I, he's going all the way.
So, you would say people like Christopher Hitchens, Richard Dawkins or Sam Harris are ''wasting their breath'', too? I'm pretty sure they too see a downward spiral of sorts, but from the same type people who apparently should be left alone, by your logic.
Perhaps I'm misunderstanding, but how can speaking out against something you personally find detrimental to humanity be a waste? How is that automatically equalling 'negativity'? I was under the impression that if somebody speaks out against something they believe is doing harm, it's called bravery.
Basically, I am asking this: how does sitting around and pretending problems don't exist solve anything?
Again, this may not have been your point, and I mean this all in friendly debate. Hope no offence is taken.

Micah: These certain people that "speak out" are most of the time wasting their breath, mainly because it doesn't make even a cubic micrometer's worth of difference. That's basic fact. People moan about stuff all the time and most of the time nothing ever gets done about it... (the likes of Martin Luther King and Ghandi are exceptions to this). Fact of the matter is there will always be a "New Age", and people of the old "New Age" will always have a problem with it. So what exactly is the point in all of this? It's just unnecessary negativity, and it's what's driving this world to the downward spiral that humanity's got itself into.

Poor reasoning that causes people to reach stupid conclusions is always worth the effort.
I thought that pseudoscience was an intrinsic part of hippieness, but maybe I'm just being condescending aagain...

^ To be fair, Alex, I think some people people 'speak out' as it were because they have observed how (some) religions and movements have caused a lot of trouble. I'm not saying it's always right to piss all over someone else's outlook, but I can at least see why some people would be compelled to complain.
Now me personally, as long as nobody crams anything down my throat, I could care less what they believe. We've all gotta get along on this planet, after all (well don't HAVE to, but it makes things a lot easier when we do ).
EDIT: Plus, I think New Age is the least of people's problems to worry about.

To be perfectly honest, they don't irritate me at all. In fact I'm friends with a lot of the New Age kids. Now I don't belong to any "cult" or social clique of any kind, but if people wanna be in those things that's cool by me, doesn't make them any worse of a person. It's people that moan about cults and cliques that irritate me. Get a life, seriously.

^ Yeah... that was actually funny. Sometimes people write things on this forum and others are like "Post of the year! Laughed my ass off!" I usually groan. Nope that was funny to me.

Guys, I dunno about you, but I'm already stocking up for the alien attack. Its under 3 years away....do you have any conception of how little time that actually is? Never mind that I believe the world is gonna COMPLETELY END in 2012....I'm gonna be ready just in case it doesn't, gosh darn it!
And when I emerge from my basement, tired and haggard, but still alive....My fellow believers and I will start a new human race and a new society, a society in which idiocy and bandwagoning are the only laws. Should the aliens allow me to live, you understand. This is all merely conditional.
