Supper's Ready ( Seconds Out Recording on remastered edition.)
The Musical Box ( Original recording (Analog)
In The Cage [including excerpts from Cinema Show and duke's travels.] --might be cheating a bit here.
Robbery Assault and Battery
Watcher Of The Skies

Doesn't have to be a definitive list.
It can change every week. It does for me. I think I've replied to this thread like 8 times.

1. Supper's Ready 2. The Musical Box 3. Firth of Fifth 4. Return of the Giant Hogweed 5. Cinema Show
Second Part:
1. Classical, particularly Renaissance (Not the group) influence. 2. Jazz style drumming. 3. Mellotron. 4. Use of 12-string acoustic guitars mixed in with electic. 5. Unusual Chords and time signatures, combined with the above, that created textured moods and atmospheres (unlike any other group).

There
are diverse styles of music. Some of the most familiar of them are
classical, jazz, blues, rock & roll, rhythm and blues, rap, hip
hop, country, bluegrass, folk, house, new age, world, and metal but
the overall list goes on and on. Also, then you have different
modifications of several genres, which makes this list almost never
ending.

I really like how a lot of their songs are stories.
Peter Gabriel's stage presence is an explosion of prog.
The songs are so unique from each other and always musically brilliant.
Tony Banks' keyboard solo on The Cinema Show.
It's always fascinating to see their progression through their discography.
5 Prog Appeals
Elaborate musicianship and originality.
No two artists sound the same.
Stories and concept albums galore!
Those keyboard solos.

HI everybody.
First of all let's talk about the gold medal.
A genesis top 5 or 10 ranks not starting with Supper at first place CANNOT EXISTS. As a genesis fan and lover it's inconceivable not to put it at first place far behond all other pieces. Listening to it's like a prayer, a continuous source of emotion. For me the top of human musical creation. It has EVERYTHING in it. It's also a song not suitable for everyone, and I think I'm very lucky to know this masterpiece, it has surely enriched my life. Don't point me as a fanatic, I know this is totally a matter of personal taste, but for me it's like being in love...with this song.
And what about the other pieces?
I can't exclude the superb Cinema show and intriguing Watcher. Musical box is for sure a must and also Salmacis. I also would go for The battle, the strangest genesis song. I'd go for the exquisite Get'em out and Moonlit knight. I would include In the cage and Carpet crawlers. I don't want to exclude Horizons, but it's a top 10 so I have to make a choice...
So, let's try to put up a difficult rank...
(and every time I look at this rank, I want to change some position... :-o)
1. Supper's ready (and second and third and fourth and so on...) 2. The cinema show 3. Watcher of the skyes 4. Musical box 5. The fountaing of salmacis 6. The battle of Epping forest 7. Get'em out by friday 8. Dancing with the moonlit knight. 9. In the cage 10. Carpet crawlers (11. Horizons)
Have a good time listening to the best band ever...
Dario
