I did the same last night, and I rather like it. I guess people don´t like the vocals, but prefer the likes of Eloy and Dream Theater- where the guys can really sing ![]() I commend both Lou and Metallica for having the balls to do this, and personally I am putting this on my "to get" list. |

Listened to nearly the whole album now and I think it is rather good actually. Don't understand the hate.

^But here on PA 10 people gave a one star rating. Even the second album of Torman Maxt (which I gave a 2) have a better rating. Damn, Even St. Anger have a better rating!

I never heard of the album till now so I assumed judging by the thread title it was a collaboration between Lou Reed, Metallica and the singer Lulu! Now there's an album I love to hear.

I got 20 seconds into the song. This is literally the worst bit of music I have heard all year.

What sucks most about this is how it'll make all those damn Metallica fans misjudge Lou. I think this whole shenanigan was just his 2011 take on Metal Machine Music. Folks who love Metallica, yet haven't heard of Lou Reed will figure all the guy's material is like that and blow off truly great records like Transformer, Berlin, The Blue Mask, Magic and Loss, or hell - even some VU - all of which trumps Metallica for my heart (in a minor way, I suppose, but still).
I hated all of Lulu. I don't blame Lou - he's a bedraggled fop these days. I don't blame Metallica either. Lars "Suck-a-dick-for-cash" Ulrich would've done anything for some more infamy-quenching limelight. If Metallica ever thought they were pushing the boundaries of rebellion, obviously they ignored Lou's little 1975 'treat'. Naw, Mr. Reed's not even one of my top 10 favorite artists, but he's up there. (23rd or so).

I've streamed the album now, against my better judgment, and after the
first listen I'm really not digging it at all. I've never really given
Lou Reed's stuff much of a chance other than Walk on the Wild Side
because his style has never appealed to me.
The whole spoken word thing has never been my type of thing; it's why "Be" is probably my least favorite PoS album. I'd far prefer Gildenlowe's spoken word stuff over Lou Reed's, though. He's off key at times, his voice drones, sounds like an old man chortling along, etc. And while I obviously have nothing against old men, I don't want to listen to them ramble on in my free time in an attempt to have enjoyment. If I want to listen to listen to spoken word, I'd rather listen to something like this: If I want to listen to Metallica, I'd rather listen to something like this: Personally I don't want those two mixed in the way it was mixed. I commend Metallica on trying something out there and different, and others are free to enjoy it without me looking down on them, but I doubt I'm ever going to quite enjoy it. I'll give it at least 4 or 5 more listens before I write it off for a while. |

I thought the first track was unbearable towards the end so it wasn't really a good opener but it definitely goes nowhere but up from there. Disc two is amazing.

I like it. Probably my favorite thing Metallica have been involved with - as for Lou Reed, I'd say this is on par with "The Raven". I find it a bit long (plus it has a couple of stinkers - like The View and Iced Honey), but I understand there is a story to be told, etc. Also, James Hetfield "singing" is quite unnecessary. The second disc is my favorite.
