Another Hamilton pole, looked like Rosberg was on top but Lewis pulled it out in Q3. Excellent job by Grosjean to get 5th, the car looked difficult but clearly they've found some speed, though Maldonado stuffed it into the wall at the exit of turn 3 on his first timed lap of Q1. Vergne has a 10 place penalty for his wheel falling off during practice and Vettel lost drive as he came out of the pits at the start of Q3.

First Practice times from Spain, Vettel had an electrical problem and will miss FP2 as they found that the wiring loom's damaged and will take forever to replace.

20 years indeed.
Crazy, I remember seeing the 10th anniversary of the race, where the hell does the time go??

Kyle Busch still attempts that every once in a while, when possible, although not as much as he used to.  A few years ago, at the Bristol fall race, he won all three races in the same weekend.

And for anyone who watched the Talladega race today, here's a prime example of an idiotic move.  Not so much him losing control (seems like he had a tire going down or just got aero loose), but the fact that he was six laps down and trying to race in the pack.

Todays the 20th Anniversary of Senna's death, amazing to think 2 decades have already gone by.

I understand Imola has a massive weekend of events on to celebrate his life this weekend, at least both Alonso and Raikkonen will be in attendance.

No one has ever won both of course. In fact I'm not sure if anyone attempting the double has won either that day.
It's a helluva lot of racing, and I recall commentators saying they thought the prep needed for the Indy 500, as well as doing a NASCAR race kind of held both back.

I'd love to see someone manage it though!

Kurt Busch's Andretti Autosport Indy 500 car was revealed today, with the sponsor being Suretone Entertainment.  I'm just hoping he can complete all 1100 miles that day.  If he can, I believe he'll be the first to do it since Tony Stewart in '01.  I also hope this picks the trend back up of NASCAR drivers attempting the double.

On board from De Silvestro's first test with a 2012 Sauber at the weekend, best colour scheme Sauber have run for since before BMW bought them. I wish this camera got used at GP weekends, you get a real sense of speed from it.

I will take some credit for Marco's great finish, clearly my blessing at the NY Auto Show led to his podium

Well...race was a bit of a snoozer honestly. There was some very cautious driving in between lots of yellows early on while wet...the track did dry off but RHR was dominant by then. It's to be expected, the race started in drying conditions so they had to do the whole avoid dry lines (while being cautious of course) and when they switched to slick tires things really got slow as they had to then dodge wet spots on the dry's LOL

He was given a gift with Power's error, but he was reeling him in at the time anyway, and once in the lead was clearly the fastest all day long. Nice win RHR!Clap
Congrats to Marco Andretti on second, he made some good progress and passed Power for 2nd and never relinquished.
Dixon finishes the podium in third.

Power finishes 5th which will keep the points title a little tighter and drive of the day has to go to Kanaan who nabbed 9th place! Shame for Munoz and JPM who both spun off and killed good days.

They should instead race at IRP.  It would probably be a better race. LOL

Yeah...that's pretty much the stupidest reason to worry about anything.

Well not to be a dick/elitist but that's a bit of bullsh*t. I love the idea personally.
Yeah I was miffed because I know Indy runs in rain, but it was indeed really heavy. It's a very hilly track which is something I never thought about...lots of the track was covered in pools, rivers were running across it. Was quite bad.

Well then I shall refrain from saying much, but I will just say after jumping out to a large lead Will Power went off track and handed the lead over to RHR, the track is drying off. Cmon Ryan!

This rain delay was killer!
Kind of blew up my afternoon and I have to miss the race our put off plans, ugh...

Anywho, I didn't realize there was going to be an "Indy double header" at the old F1 course, then the 500. That is pretty awesome I have to say!
I'm not worried, it's still early and I think a couple of others will be in contention. A Power DNF and it can all close up.

Edit: Ugh, race has been changed to a timed limit, 1 hour 40 minutes. Kind of sucks but what can ya do?

Well it shifted in the early 80's when it wasn't a problem, can't remember what the reason was though, probably money. Wilson and Sato have both said it's a complete none starter, switching the race to F1, it's bumpy enough for IndyCars.

I do like Power, but he's already got nearly double the points of second in the championship, I really don't want him to run away with it.

Grand Prix of Alabama, love this track!
It's just rained there, so gunna start with a wet track I reckon, not sure if rain is supposed to continue but ya know I always love a wet race.

Sadly eh? Not a Power fan? He's certainly off to a good start that's for sure.
RHR is in third, and since he really had Long Beach won before he screwed it up so I'm hoping he'll be a title contender again.

I always wondered why Long Beach didn't host the USGP anymore, with it being such a great track, but I figured it was due to track/facility conditions. I know they are quite stringent in F1 with all that. I like the Texas track a lot though, so I'm cool with Long Beach being the "American Monaco" ya know? That can be "our" track.

I still would love to see F1 slinging around LaGuna Seca but talk about track conditions... I assume I'll become President of the USA before that happensLOL

Indycar at Barber today, sadly Power is on poll again, Kanaan is starting last!

Long Beach just announced a 3 year extension to their contract with IndyCar, but I know Chris Pook the event founder is trying to put a deal together to get F1 back to Long Beach. It'll never happen, the track would have to be extended, facilities improved and safety standards raised as well as re surfacing the track, probably on a yearly basis. It would Bancorp Long Beach to try it IMO.
