Well, I think UMUR is quite right. And though I am not interested in football and charged with a passionate hatred against the cult created around it, I feel more or less tempted to watch the Mannschaft humiliate the tooth- and clawless lion from the country where I come from, which I call Nederlaag* these days in my native language.
* Nederlaag is Dutch for defeat. The Dutch name for the Netherlands is Nederland.

If The Netherlands change place with Denmark I pretty much agree. I think Germany will beat the Dutch team tomorrow and Denmark will draw with Portugal. After the Danish surprise win over The Netherlands anything can happen in that group. Denmark has beaten Portugal twice in the last couple of years so I donīt think itīs an impossible task to get points against Portugal and then the Dutch side will be f**ked unless they win both of their remaining games.
...hmm unless of course weīre talking goal difference and not games won against each other. Iīm not completely sure how that works . Fear just crept in on me .

First games finished in all four groups, second round starts tonight. After one match, Russia has been by far the best team and playing some of the most beautiful attacking football I've seen in a while.
My predictions for how the group stages are going to end up:
Group A:
Russia
Poland
Greece
Czech Republic
I see Russia as a dark horse to win the whole tournament, they were really impressive against Czech Republic. Poland will reach the quarter final on home team advantage.
Group B:
Germany
Netherlands
Denmark
Portugal
Portugal is going to underperform like they always do and Cristiano Ronaldo(gawd I hate dislike him) will fail in the big matches like he always does.
Group C:
Spain
Croatia
Italy
Ireland
Ireland are, along with Czech Republic, the weakest team in the tournament and will finish last. Croatia will beat Italy and advance alongside Spain.
Group D:
France
Ukraine
England
Sweden
This is the hardest group to predict as none of the teams really impressed in the first match. I'm guessing 1 win and 2 draws apiece for France and Ukraine, 3 straight draws for England and a single draw against England for the Swedes. Ukraine will be buoyed by home field advantage and the ever growing legend of Shevchenko to advance just like Poland. I don't see any of these teams winning the whole thing though.
In my opinion, the most likely winners of Euro 2012 are Spain, Germany or Russia.

They seemed unorganized and gave away too many chances. They were seldom good in the other end either. I think Sweden disappointed, but on the other hand I didnīt expect much more from them.

Oh well Sweden play us next and I'm not sure we ever beat Sweden! So I think there is hope left for all the teams in this group. Could easily all finish on the same no of points

In defence of both teams, they were both attrocious at the last WC and neither team wanted to get beat and maybe go home again to a dissapointed country. In England we are not expecting anything from this team. What we want is a team that tries and doesn't leave embarrassed like last time. If we get through the group stage I think that is all we would like.
Also yes we played defensively, but on the few times we had a chance to do anything a French player cynically brought down the player and the referee ignored it. He was happy (like a lot of referees are) to give yellow cards for mistimed challenges. which for some reason referees think are more serious that a deliberate tread on the ankles or pull or shove just at the time a player is making a break. It ruins good games.
Boring maybe for a neutral but not me. In fact all the games have been good in some way so far. |
Agree with this post wholeheartedly.
Not that bad a game at all, and a good result.
