I haven't, but I've heard great things about the Jackie Stewart one (I didn't know about the other two). They'll be on my list of things to watch now. There is a documentary I recently watched on YouTube called Champions Forever: The Formula One Drivers, although I think it was originally titled The Quick And The Dead. It's broken up into two parts, but it focuses on Jackie Stewart, Francois Cevert, Peter Revson and some others. It came out some time in the 70's and is narrated by Stacy Keach. Not a bad documentary. |

No, Lauda led a very different life, though thats not to say he didn't enjoy himself.
Go see Senna and Rush, you will not regret it. Mills, have you seen the 3 documentaries on Graham Hill, Jackie Stewart and Jim Clarke from a few years ago, they were made by Mark Stewart (Jackie's son), they're brilliant and show the three champions off brilliantly. |

Button? Weak
LOL He seems like a cool guy, I'd rather have a beer with him over Lewis. Funny the 180 I had with those 2. All I know about Hunt, besides that he was a champion, is that he was famous his rock star life of women, booze, drugs and flamboyance and was Kimi's idol (much to my chargrin, I always thought maybe he under performed due to his life style). Oh, also back in the day Hunt apparently looked like a Viking god ![]() Actually I know nothing at all about Lauda, just he was a 3 time champ. Guess I should see Senna and Rush, though IDK how much real info the latter will provide. It seems he was a friendly-rival of Hunt. Was he into the crazy ass life that Hunt lived as well?

He probably would have won the 77 title if the car was reliable, he was certainly the fastest man out there that year, but so many results when begging to mechanical failures. After that it was a case of not enough power against the V12's of Ferrari and Alfa Romeo, not enough downforce against the ground effect Lotus 78 and Goodyear tyres being inferior to Michelins. By 79 it got so bad that Marlboro forced the merger with Ron Denis Project 4 team that was looking to step up to F1 for 80. It's why all McLarens are designated MP4= McLaren Project 4.

I'm also having a Jenson Button shirt made with the McLaren F1 logo on the front and then a '22' and 'Button' on the back since all of the shirts I found for him are kind of lame. Too much in the way of the McLaren team and not enough Button.
I'll admit, I didn't know much about James Hunt before Rush came out, but since then, I've watched numerous documentaries on F1 in the '70's and have read up on him and Lauda specifically, and I've been a pretty big fan of his since. Probably him, Button, Lauda and Raikonnen being my favorites. I know Hunt only won 10 races and 1 championship, but the fact that he was admired and respected by someone of Niki Lauda's caliber says something. Also, had McLaren's cars been more competitive after '76, he may have been in the running for more championships, but unfortunately, the timing just wasn't there other than that one season. |

Certainly an intriguing guy to pick!
The only racing garb I had was Dale Jr shirt, and mainly I wore it to school because it had Budweiser on the back and ya know, rebellious teen

I think my newly found James Hunt fandom is getting out of control. I ordered another shirt last night that's almost the same look to the other one I posted, except there's a big '11' on the right sleeve.

Indeed.
Ah hell, I ALREADY failed to do better with my Indy watching, missed the very first race :( Looks like a dominant win from Will Power, and cool to see Sato on pole. Well, good start to the year...maybe this will finally be Power's year lol prob not

The thing I noticed about Massa in Malaysia is that he wasn't slow, he just wasn't particularly good at overtaking. Both against Magnussen early on and Button at the end, he had one good go at passing then hung back by a second or so for lap after lap, he seemed distinctly toothless in his attack. Bottas, I'm sure, would have done much better in this regard.
Was very impressed with Kobayashi, he spent much of the race mixing it with faster cars. |

While I agree Massa shouldn't be demanding things, if, in his mind, he is the #1 driver (and by him saying he won't be a number two I think he is thinking of himself as the #1 guy) expecting the other to move out of the way/not attack isn't outside the lines (from a team orders perspective).

Yeah I did hear that...pretty punk move.
And after the fun wears off...the realist comes out and I have to say, in the end if he's that much faster (to the point you have to ask him to back off) you probably should just accept orders and move over. |

The thing that annoys me about Massa is that he was demanding team orders early in the race to get Bottas to back off, if he's not going to follow them himself then he's got no right to demand others do the same.

And as always Sleeper has proven nearly spot on.
Merc so far is the team to beat. Damn strong. RBR isn't too far off though, and McLaren appears to be a legit #3 threat, battling with Ferrari. The prediction with Williams has also proven true so far.

Finally watched the tape (4 am start!?) and I gotta say, was not quite worth the wait
Bit of a snoozer, everything quickly fell into line and not much happened. Did feel awful for Ricciardo, real sh*tstorm of a race. He was running well too. IDK if it's a rivalry per se, more like Massa simply isn't going to lay down anymore. The announcers kept saying how Massa stated "I won't be number 2 anymore". Gotta love it as race fans, and we all hate seeing the pushovers and love teammates racing and earning their spots, but it was indeed a team order violation. If he keeps this up all season will make quite a rough ride. But hey, Massa has been around since 2002 (holy hell!), was nearly a world champion, has played #2 nearly his whole career. Guess he feels he's hit wily old veteran status! Great race for Hulkenberg, some nice dicing with Alonso and it was one of the 2 only good battles this race. They kept harping on he should've been in Ferrari over Kimi, and so far hard to disagree. He must've had damage...was shocked how Kimi didn't make up any ground at all. Unlike Magnussen, who IMO REALLY showed off his stuff with his clawing back into the points ![]() |

Well, Raikkonen was screwed over pretty fast. Didn't help Magnussen too much, either.
Also, seems to be a little bit of an inner rivalry brewing between Bottas and Massa, especially when Massa ignored team orders to let Bottas towards the end. I didn't mind it, as it helped Button cruise to a decent 6th place finish. Edited by MillsLayne - March 30 2014 at 04:46 |
