The thing about Paprika is there’s an entire page of words in parentheses that you read during the lengthy 8-10 minute instrumental break. It’s a weird experience, you’re reading the actual subtext of the instrumental. Edited by HolyMoly - March 22 2019 at 20:30 |

That Hoenig album has been one of the few go-to albums I always turn to when nothing else will do. Been so since my youth. When I’m depressed it comforts me, and when I just want to take a little mind trip it always satisfies. |

Bob Dylan | Tell Tale Signs: Bootleg Series Vol 8 (1989-2006) - later period Bob. Need to get into this era more. Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band | Pour l’Amour des Chiens - a little-known recent album that returns to the music hall vaudeville of their earliest work The Stooges | Fun House - oh my god this thing just smokes. Hadn’t heard it in a couple of years and it’s easy to forget how potent this is Parquet Courts | Human Performance - one of my favorite modern rock bands. this was their “mature” third album and has tons of memorable tunes The Voidz | Virtue - my favorite album release of 2018. Just a great example of experimental modern rock. Featuring the leader of The Strokes, a band I’ve never been into. This is him taking his talents in weird directions Nik Turner | Space Ritual 1994 Live - bought this a few years ago and am amazed by the quality. Kind of a parallel universe Hawkwind album. Possibly even louder, with Helios Creed (formerly of Chrome) on guitar making all sorts of noise. Frank Zappa | Dance Me This - posthumous Synclavier-based release, though it was completed and planned for release while he was alive. Shows a lot of new sides to his musical personality. A 30-minute piece of spooky water sounds and percussion is the centerpiece. The Ex | Dizzy Spells - a great Dutch post-punk band that’s been around since the early 80s, and has many ties to the RIO/Avant world too. Fugazi with more percussion and minus the screaming. I bet Fugazi were influenced by Them in fact |

Island is amazing. Oyster was the album that got me. South was the last one I bought. I haven't kept up with her since. I'll have to catch up someday.

Just thinking about her song, "Island," gives me chills. I see she is releasing a new recording soon, I will enjoy checking that out.

^ She was really something, live, in the 90s. I was blessed with being able to catch her gig in 98, very close to the stage. Just one of the lovelier memories of my youth, outdoors on an august night with a beautiful girl, this ethereal voice filling the street. |

I have hardly ever seen Heather Nova mentioned anywhere...She wrote some great songs and had/has a great voice, too.

^ I love the hell out of that Santana album. I have distant memories of my dad playing it when I was a kid. Still stunning from start to finish!
Thrilled Skinny | It’s a Good Doss : Obscure British punk band from the 90s. Discovered them on an equally obscure compilation I found on an obscure music blog. How obscure it is. Revel in the obscurity. United Waters | Your First Ever River : strange murky blobulent indie art rock that sounds like it’s under water. Big fan for the last few years since I discovered them. This is their debut but their 2nd Sunburner is the best place to start. Sun City Girls | Torch of the Mystics : Just a crazy piece of damaged world-music-psychedelia. Like Secret Chiefs 3 in the 60s, but recorded in the 90s. Not necessarily typical of their other 80 albums either. Alice Cooper | Lace and Whiskey : a typically solid 70s Coop album. Always reliable for intelligent entertainment French Frith Kaiser Thompson | Live Love Larf & Loaf : cool supergroup packed with amazing songs in multiple styles. Hall and Oates - same (1975)
Joni Mitchell - For the Roses (first spin!) Wow. I thought I knew Joni's discog inside and out having went through it all years ago. I had seen FTR in the racks many times, but for some bizarre reason, I had always associated that album with some type of collection or retrospective. I didn't realize it was just another studio album. Thus, I ignored it since I'm not a big fan of compilations. The good news is, I'm getting the rush of hearing "new" prime-era Joni for the first time, an experience not to take for granted. Cool. I think I'll play it very sparingly going forward, in order to keep it unfamiliar and exciting.

^ Thanks, I figured it was something like that. Now I am curious if it is the same as the original music since it has Amon Duul II instead of Amon Duul . I will have to compare listens if I can find the original on Youtube somewhere or the like.

![]() I agree with its rating, it's really good but doesn't excite me too much. I still prefer it over Snow Goose though. Do you dig it? ![]() Yesterday: Ed Wynne - Shimmer Into Nature Jean-Michel Desbouis - Prince Breidablik - Nhoohr Kungens Män - Chef |
