It's really expensive, but well worth it IMO - I've saved by cancelling my order of the regular Classic Rock magazine. |
Bloody hell! that seems a bit steep! I also also think it's a top mag and have bought it since issue 1 but I doubt I'd stump up that much (or the sterling equivalent). I do worry that they're going to run out of cover stars - classic rock seems to have Led Zep every third issue and I reckon Prog seems to cycle round Tull, Genesis and Floyd quite a bit

Is there a new one out yet ? The latest one I have has Genesis on the cover. Its the only one I've ever got except issue 2.
I kind of wish I had read it every time it was out, but I never got around to it really.

Dang, the new issue is the first one I simply passed on. I have most of them and usually can hardly wait for the next issue to come out. Certainly I love the classic Prog bands, but there's plenty of new bands I'm interested in too. Still, Prog is hardly as expansive of a genre as a magazine devoted to Rock, so I was worried that the well might run a little dry for this magazine. I like Dream Theater, but as I skimmed the magazine there just weren't many other articles I wanted to read. Where in the early issues I read the thing front to back.
It felt weird putting it back up on the shelf and walking away. I've never done that before. Usually I just see the cover and go "yeah Yes is on the cover" or "yeah Radiohead/Mars Volta" or "World of Weird Prog, Alright!" and grab it and go. Not this time.

I love the British magazines that the local store gets in... I pick up Classic Rock, Classic Rock Presents Prog, Metal Hammer, sometimes Terrorizer... Mojo and Uncut on occasion (depending on the CD)... I'm not really interested in the magazines themselves, but I love the music.
And truthfully, it was Hammer that got me looking into prog. One of the first few CD's that I got had "The Best of Roadrunner Records", with Dream Theater (Constant Motion), Porcupine Tree (Fear of a Blank Planet) and Opeth (Ghost of Perdition). After hearing them, I had to hear more. And prog is like quicksand...
The store doesn't even bother putting the Prog issue on the shelf... they get only one copy in and they put it aside for me.

I have to agree with you. Whole hearted, no less. For a change, this CD is not a toy for my cat.

Still too much for me to pay on a monthly basis. I'd rather spend than money on CD's. Good magazine though.

The Yes issue finally arrived in Austrlalia a few weeks ago and it was pretty good. I know I will be getting all the issues as they make an excellent reference and there is so little on prog on the magazine shelf. Even Uncut and Mojo have been lacking lately yet in the past have had excellent prog related articles.
I look fwdto the Dream Theater issue and reading about the shock departure of a certain member...

I personally love the mag. After being a "classic" prog fan, it got me into Mostly Autumn, Crimson Sky etc, cos i YouTube any new upcoming artists they feature. I like that they do classic prog features, but i think the first few pages are paramount to the survival of the genre. After all, how would i have found District 97 without Prog?
