Grace For Drowning is a good album, I can see its merits. However, it is such a depressing album, that I have to be in the mood to listen to it (which isn't often), and I feel this brings the album down, in terms of repeat listens. I don't feel that way about any of the PT albums I've heard.

This guy has finally decided to outbore everybody else. It's like he removes the "Porcupine Tree" of his music and it suddenly becomes narcotic in a bad sense (and even his last PT album started to go that way). Where's the SW of the best PT albums (all the ones before The Incident?) Or even of side projects like Blackfield?

Have to totally disagree. Grace for Drowning is a superb album

is it the follow-up to Doomsday Afternoon or another lone star (like Snowtorch, Number 7, etc)?

You surely deserves to be on the top Fido, though I was hoping that Snowtorch would come higher than just fifth. That album of yours is pure gold.

Congrats to Kavus for making it close to the top 100 with your EP : 138 Dear Lord No Deal (Knifeworld).  I didn't vote for it since it was an EP but it's one of the highlights of my 2011 musical year.

Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

Hm, one thing I noticed is the lack of jazz-rock/fusion releases from 2011. There were a few that were really good.

Planeta Imaginario!

Alllllllllll the way down at #140. I, more or less, meant jazz-fusion releases that would have made the top.... 50. Hiromi should have been on this list.

However, I will check out this album Optical Delusions - Planeta Imaginario. I'm always up for new jazz-fusion releases.

Hiromi is on the list, but way past #200 I think. I enjoyed Visoins, but it wasnt that different from most of her other albums, and doesnt come close to matching Spiral for me.

You mean Voice? Wink

I thought it was a little different because of the trio setting it was in. The melodies were so beautiful on that album.

It does have similarities to Spiral now that I think about it. However, I thought it was one of her better albums, at least should have been higher than 200-something. Oh well, here's hoping for another album like Time Control or Beyond Standard, in spirit.

Errr yes, that one.Embarrassed

The only other album of hers I've got is Brain so the trio setting is nothing new to me (she only has a quartet on Time Control and Beyond Standard) and I thought Voice felt very similar to Brain, which given the seven year gap between the two albums is a bit disappointing. Checking her page her on the archives, I'm surprised at how low rated Spiral is, it's one of my favorite albums, I love it.

Ah well....

Still Life>Ghost Reveries=Watershed=Damnation>Blackwater Park=Heritage>Orchid>MAYH=Deliverance>Morningrise

You are quite a fine person, and I am very fond of you. But you are only quite a little fellow, in a wide world, after all.

1) Ghost Reveries
2) Blackwater Park
3) Watershed
4) Still Life
5) Deliverance
6) Damnation
7) My Arms, Your Hearse
8) Morningrise
9) Orchid
10) Heritage

I would put Heritage above Morningrise and Orchid; those were still their developing years and the albums weren't all that great IMO.

Nah. Tunes like "To Bid You Farewell", "Under the Weeping Moon", "In Mist She Was Standing", and "Nectar" top anything on Heritage.

True, those blackened(ish) prog death metal tracks from the first two albums were pretty epic. Granted I didn't think Heritage was all that bad either.
