That's on Apple TV+

Also highly recommended on Apple TV+ is Hijack with Idris Elba and then there are new seasons of Foundation and Invasion coming up if you like sci-fi.

Citadel

Shouldn't really be reviewing it as I couldn't finish it, but I was just so bored. Richard Madden is giving the most sterile performance of his career and Stanley Tucci is hopefully enjoying the nice pay check. BTW to all TV producers , bossy English women do not make good baddies. Lesley Manville is woefully miscast and the plot is about some secret Cabal that is manipulating stuff and needs to be stopped. Yawn. 2/10 for a few decent action set peices.

And now finished Silo. A great TV show with surely more to come (based on the books by Hugh Howey there should be enough material). Loved it 9/10

Finished Series 2 of From recently. A good first series, but a drab second one. No answers whatsoever, just more questions and mystery. The acting is half decent at least. 6/10

Now watching Silo which is excellent.

Monster Factory

A documentary exploring the 'junior' or up and coming ranks of Pro Wrestling in the States. This one focuses on one club and the array of fascinating people and the characters they create. There is a lot that goes into it and this helped get under the skin of the protaganists dreaming of being The Rock or The Undertaker. Of course it barely qualifies as sport as such and has more in common with drama and theatre but nevertheless the passion and love comes out big time. A nice little distraction from the usual, only 7 episodes and most not much more than about 30 mins long. 8/10

Season 6 of Black Mirror. Some if it was good (Joan is Awful, Beyond the Sea) but on the whole a bit hit and miss. Two of the episodes didn't even feel like typical Black Mirror (Loch Henry, Mazey Day). Still it's better then much of the dross on TV these days. 7.5/10

Black Mirror - Season 6 (2023): Worse than I expected, but still good. 7.5/10

Silverpoint - Season 2 (2023): I reviewed the first season here, but couldn't find it via a search. A very smart kids show from BBC. The second season is just as good as the first one. The fact that it has had 777 ratings on IMDb (as of yet) is plain ridiculous. 9/10

We really enjoyed the series, but for some reason the finale felt like a bit of a disappointment to the Mrs and me. Still not sure why exactly.
Oh well, on to the next series.

I thought they had decided that was it for Succession. I'm still undecided on watching beyond episode 4 because I feel it ended about there anyway Wink

Finally binged the last 6 episodes in the last few days. Writing is still unmatched in quality anywhere else except maybe Yellowstone which seems to explore similar themes (Patriachy especially). Didn't mind the ending at all, you can't always wrap these things up in a nice bow.
I would like to see a Season 5, there are enough little story threads still to pull at, but really the core idea is done. Perhaps they could re-name it Succession: Aftermath. Would love to see what develops with Chiv, Tom, Roman, Kendal, Gregory and all the great characters brilliantly played by the ensenble cast. 10/10

The Rise Of The Nazi's - The Downfall.

A BBC documentary about the dying days of the Third Reich as WWII was coming to an end. They attempt to get inside the heads of the main protaganists as Hitler, Goebels and Braun retreat to the bunker while Speer and Himmel try to distance themselves from the Nazi regime. It rams home the sheer self deception of a tragically flawed racist ideolegy. Hitler still belives he can raise and inspire German people to a last stand as their homes are turned to rubble. Fascinatingly detailed account. 9/10

Before that I finished The Sinner (all seasons). Lots of more limited run series. I di enjoy Post Mortem: No One Dies in Skarnes some time back (might have mentioned it already). I really liked from Germany, Kleo. I loved the last season of Westworld (mentioned already) but still want more and doesn't look like it will happen.

Currently watching Lost - Those Who Kill. Recommended as it includes the wonderful Danish actor Alex Hogh Anderson who also played Ivar The Boneless in the show Vikings. I struggled with Dark , my brain couldn't cope at all! The Sinner was a real gem of a series , just love Bill Pullman to death in that! Westworld seems done but you never know with sc-fi Smile

the lead actor playing Christopher Pike is superb (Anson Mount) but I just can't abide Christina Chong's cut glass English accent which sounds so forced to me. Frustrating, especially given that she is actually English. Is the director putting her up to it I wonder?! I tried hard to get past this put had to give up in the end. Funny that I subscribed to Paramount to get this show and then end up watching other great shows such as Mayor Of Kingstown and Tulsa King instead Smile

That annoys me a bit too. I watched again an episode of Strange New Worlds yesterday. For me it has not appealed nearly so much as Picard, and it looks like Seven of Nine might be hosting the show, and she is just a powerhouse. Love her more now than in Voyager, as I was actually upset when they removed Kes. I would have rather seen Neelix, who annoyed me (and the relationship with Kes felt uncomfortable, paedophiliac and obsessive), go, or the wooden Ensign Kim.

Watching while most appreciating a sunset in the moment need not diminish all the glorious sunsets I have observed before. It can be much like that with music for me.

Der Greif (The Gryphon) - TV Series - 2023 - Season 1 - 6 Episodes:

Immersive and impressive, if not a wholly standout series.

A very nice, brand new German TV series. Kinda like Stranger Things, but not a blatant rip-off. So much rock and metal music related content too! The horned ones rock! (See the very end of the last episode for that.) \m/

The whole thing could be (interpreted as) an allegory on psychosis too, though. The reference to Kurt Cobain at the end somewhat substantiates that. Fantasy and reality becomes elided here outlandishly.

One of its creators/writers is a Turk: Erol Yesilkaya. (The surname's original/Turkish spelling is Yeşilkaya.) Also, there's the Turkish "Memo" and his father among the characters.

Really an entertaining show.

8/10

struggling to finish anything at the moment but must give a nod to The Steel Town Murders (4 episodes). Stars Philip Glenister and he is tremendous in it, investigating an unsolved crime 30 years after a series of notorious murders in the Welsh valleys in the early seventies. Could DNA forensic testing finally provide the missing answers? Compelling stuff. 9/10

Well whatever it is I'm not getting it and so it becomes just far too distracting sadly. I am annoyed with myself because I like Star Trek generally and even stuck with Discovery long after it had ceased to be interesting.
