In the booklet of the compilation "The Moody Blues: Gold" I read that Michael Pinder was employed in the factory that built the Mellotron! Here because the Mellotron was so very worn from the Moody Blues! Here because it was a custom Mellotron outside in all series!
So THE MOODY BLUES is my Melloron band!!! |

Today I got the news from a friend that indeed Retro 2 has been released recently so we have to hurry Verslibre
![]() This evening I had goose bumps during Netherworld their instrumental epic entitled Cumulo Nimbus Part 3 (on the Musea CD release), what a wonderful choir-Mellotron waves

I have never used so many times the word Mellotron in a review, Verslibre, 7 times in a relative short review
![]() Yesterday I heard that the new Rick Wakeman album is loaded with Mellotron

One of the best groups out of Germany, IMO. Absolutely essential for Mellotronheads! |

Yeh Birotron was a venture between Dave Biro & Wakeman..There were only 30 odd of these ever made before the firm went bust. They worked off what looked to me like a standard 8-track cassette cartridge.I think wakeman had 4 of these at one time but seem to remember a couple getting nicked.I remember seeing some footage of Wakeman at the time of Tormato showing off his new Birotron...I recon there was more chance of an original Mellotron surviving than one of these any way. For example, you have some mellotron (violins sound) on the chorus of the beautiful "Julia". Another example, just on the beginning of "Late November" or "Song Dance", well, I just played the record and, you have some mellotron everywhere in fact...

I've got a question for you guys. In the reviews for Pampered Menial by Pavlov's Dog, poeple gush about all the Mellotron on it. I'm not sure exactly where it is, though. Can someone familiar with the album tell me a good example?

Oh yes, it's what I meant by "digital". But the M-Tron has the same imperfections, the sound is dirty like the original, it's great!!
(For the Hammond, the B4 is a great plugin too and you can find the key click you are talking about but it's another topic ;)) |

The problem is that most Mellotron sounds, like the EMU Vintage keys, sound too clinical, I miss the imperfections (as with the Hammond organ like the key click) that made the Mellotron so legendary and distinctive

The M-Tron is not so expensive but you need a master keyboard, and a computer of course ;) It really worth it because the sounds is really realistic. I have some mellotron sounds in my EMU sound modules but it's cleaner, more digital (it's good too sometimes), but the M-Tron sounds are dirtier like the original ones :) |

Thank you ;) The M-Tron virtual instrument is absolutely great!! It's difficult not to put mellotron everywhere... (I'm not sure that this sentence is correct in english lol)

I should imagine that not many people on PAs will remember a British magician (TV celebrity of the 1960s/70s) called David Nixon. Well, apprently he was one of the first 'Tron enthusiasts around.
See this rather amusing demo' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yrXtmKGkSa4 ![]() Edited by Man Erg - July 25 2007 at 04:31 |
