How about some Math Rock mixed in with it? I'm listening to Cheval de Frise's EP and a lot of it is quite post- sounding.
You could probably mix in some.
And you need heaviness. That's the problem I have with Post-rock... it doesn't have enough heaviness and when it does, it just doesn't fit.
I really like The Pax Cecilia's album though... that mixes genres nicely.

I agree.

The sort of sound I'm going for is sorta like Pelican, but more like their older sound than their current more post rock direction and definitely not as 'clean' sounding as their latest album either. It will have more guitar so to speak, not in the way of solos (since whenever I write in the post metal state of mind, I leave behind soloing and think more texturally), but more noticeable melodic lines to give it a slightly more traditional prog metal feel at times without straying from the core sound of post metal

Sounds interesting. Just let me know when you record anything and I'll listen to it.

I suspect none in this thread:P I'll have to whore myself out in the Post Rock/Math Rock/Post Metal thread.

I'll at least listen to it. I like Baroness.... but that's about all I know I think.

I like Post Metal.
So I'll say yes.
I like Bossk more than I like Pelican, mind you.

I'm not doing covers and then recording them and then putting them out there for public display, it's more about studying other people's style and getting to know the music more for me. Anyway, I don't think the stuff I have slightly in the works is gonna be that interesting for fellow chat room PA folk, since my first proper solo effort is going to be based around Post Metal anyway.

No, you're the only character that's TBA, or so far anyway (unless I change you).
And why don't you do a Tool and release a very mediocre album after 3 or 4 years of supposedly recording it?
Why the hell would I want to do that?

I'm burned out tonight, and I think I'm starting to get pretty sick.
If I do anything soon, it'll be finishing to get my 1st album copyrighted and up for download.

Yeah, that's fair enough. I should work on more Opeth stuff, now that I've nailed 2 sections from a Fair Judgement, and about the first 4 minutes of Hessian Peel. Really fun stuff to play on guitar (that is, if you actually have the necessary amount of skill.......some people think it's a pain in the ass to play ).
