I suppose the ratings make sense if the reviewer is die-hard old symphonic prog fan. Later albums had much less of that, after Islands the purely "symphonic" tracks were next to non-existent.

On a sidenote, God how I wish I could rediscover King Crimson (tabula rasa style), I think NOTHING floored me as much as KC in the early days of progging. Still have shivers while listening to favorites (i.e. Lizard, ITCOTCK, Larks Part I, Fracture), but I've done it so many times it will never have the same impact. Especially ITWOP, I loved it dearly, equally to the debut, but the more I learnt about the band (and the more reviews I read), my unconditional enthusiasm watered down... The only such case in all music really.

I don't know how it happened.

King Crimson got off to a tremendous start with their ground-breaking debut album, but it was downhill all the way from there onwards, in my humble opinion, which is reflected in my ever-decreasing  ratings. I kept hoping the albums might get better after the Red album, but sadly, it wasn't to be, mainly because I'm not a big fan of Adrian Belew, who dominated King Crimson's albums from the early 1980's onwards. The only high-point for me in King Crimson's later years was their Live in Japan concert from 2015, featuring a superb rendition of "Starless", the winning song by far in this poll. Smile

Lizard
Night watchman
Pictures of a city
Exiles
Frame by frame
All I like is prog related bands beginning late 60's/early 70's. Their music from 1968 - 83 has the composition and sound which will never be beaten. Perfect blend of jazz, classical, folk and rock.

with just one song per album, which is hard to do with a group as front loaded as KC IMO

1.  In the Wake of Poseidon
2.  In the Court of the Crimson King
3.  Cirkus
4.  The Night Watch
5.  Exiles

I like overwrought gothic ballads. Smile Epitaph has always been my favourite King Crimson song, so I'm glad it made it into the final Top 5.
