I got the new Yes issue yesterday. Not bad, with new interviews of most of the personnel which could have been a little more detailed IMO.

Dang, in the US we're still waiting for the Roger Waters issue. (Unless my store stopped carrying it).
I love THE WALL and Rogers solo work. He's my favorite. Just played Final Cut this morning. But I just can't justify paying those prices to see the Wall in concert. Its not like I can't afford it, its just that the tour is all about making $$, the prices are way too high. AND, the Wall's concept in many was about overblown Rock stardom, so this almost seems like a self fulfilling parody. Don't get me wrong, Floyd/Waters are my all time favorite.

I got hold of the ELP issue last month and eagerly awaiting the Rush issue. To be honest the ELP issue was not as good as others such as the Peter Gabriel ISSUE. I still think the PROG mags are excellent value as the CD has some great material and the magazine is jam packed with prog unlike other mags that may only have 10 percent prog and the rest rubbish.
Contents of ELP issue includes:
Prognosis 8 CD featuring IO EARTH, SYZYGY, AEON ZEN, TO-MERA, CHIMP SPANNER, AWAKE BY DESIGN, FROM GREAT HEIGHT, AUTO DE FE, ONLY UNTIL, PANIC ROOM
Articles featured include:
review on Rush: Beyond the lightest stage DVD
Review of albums by Haken, Blueneck, North Atlantic Oscillation, Syzygy
Q & A from Primus Les Claypool
Articles on:
Asia
Karnataka
Anathema
Finland's Prog scene
Caravans In The Land of Grey and Pink
Unitopia
The Enid
The Black Swan Effect
Pain of Salvation
Arthur Brown
ELP extensive feature with interviews of all members
Tangerine Dream album covers
Asias latest album
lots of reviews of latest CDs
Peter Gabriel concert review
Astra live review
Opeth live review
Jethro Tull live review
Coheen live review
Mastodon final pic
Not bad for all that in one mag! Still I look fwd to the latest issue featuring Rush!

Obviously a lot of young folks discover Pink Floyd and Genesis on their own, but some others seeing Muse, Radiohead, Coheed and Cambria, Mars Volta, Decemberists, Oceansize, etc being associated with Prog might cause them to discover and love the genre like we all do. The more accepted the genre becomes by the massess, the better for even more Prog music to be accepted and played on the radio, etc.
Maybe its just a pride thing for what I think is the greatest genre of music ever. Prog is finally becoming accepted again, and I just want to see its popularity grow and grow. And not be seen as just a genre for us old guys listening to 40 year old music. |
I have that same pride. After decades of prog not getting much respect, it finally is getting it. Long overdue. I also agree with the sharing and will add that it can go both ways. I have turned my son and daughter onto bands such as ELP, Yes, Moody Blues and more. In return, they have turned me onto Tool, Days of the New and others. |
Two posts that deserve to get put on the front page of the PA website. It would be difficult not to agree with every word said. Thanks guys

For the record, my dollar still looks for the older artists as well but I am enjoying getting exposed to the newer music. Sadly, I have missed so much that Opeth is newer music to me. But, it's never too late to enjoy music.
Some other types of magazines will do regional covers for different regions. One thing they could do to expand the buyers is to have two different covers: one for a featured older artist and another for the featured newer artist. It wouldn't change the inside at all and they can still promote both by having the other band in a small picture on the cover of the other band. (I think that made sense ) I would hope collector's wouldn't have to feel they had to buy both. One is too expensive as it is.

^Yeah Classic Rock owns the Powerage label. So much for journalistic neutrality. But oh well. I still buy Prog magazine. I had to stop buying the main CR mag, though, because its too expensive to get both every issue. |
Same here. I was buying CR when Prog came out. I had to switch because I couldn't afford both.
One thing at least, Prog doesn't hide the fact they don't have journalistic neutrality. Still not a good thing though. But until something better comes along, I still buy it and enjoy it.
