That's got to make Nike happy. All the more jerseys that they will sell of his. Or better yet, he can find God and call himself John 8:5.

You LOL but would you even be surprised if he did? Oh, and remember when he raced that horse? Even for a receiver...what a headcase!

Nah, Carson was good. I do think he was overrated (never was a top 3 like it was said) but I thought he was one of the better ones. Stuck on the Bungles was one major problem!
And lol, the surprise year of Cedric Benson was just that. He's back to mediocrity...

What amazes me about the Bungles is they can still get "experts" to jump on their bandwagon every year. They saw one of their many "troubled" (putting it extremely nicely) players die in-season yet Marvin Lewis was still named Coach of the Year (he really helped Henry get his life back on track). Having had to watch a lot of their games I was simply amazed people were picking them to win any playoff games at all last year, going into their whooping at the hands of the Jets, yet they did. ATH's poor, misguided Tim Cowlishaw even made them his pre-season SB pick. But hey, he likes the BCS too. Carson's always been overrated and the team is going to fall flat on their face again next year with or without him.
I am really happy they've decide to keep Marvin around for a few more years though, as a Steelers' fan.

Carson Palmer seems to be playing a game, claiming he wants a trade or is "prepared to retire" Fun stuff from one of the more woeful teams in the league.

In all seriousness, we need that ancient aztec sport. Manliest thing ever right there.

Yeah it's kind of silly. It does make sense, as you said, having the old vet...but it's silly. Have em as 3rd string at least! I do think they are generally there to help the other ones out. Rare that they actually go out an play. Why pay for em though? Who knows? Some GM's are mental. The Redskins pay Haynesworth $100 million to play 20-25 snaps a game, admitted by them.
And I remember that Rivers injury. IMHO that's a RARE example. We like when a player toughs it through injury, and going out on a torn ACL is damn noble...but really, don't you see that as way past the border of brave/stupid? I don't want to use that comparison. Almost all others would not play in that case, and NO ONE would blame em.

I still think Cutler should've toughed it out considering what was on the line. I gave just a few examples of QBs playing games with worse injuries just a page ago. Never thought he was a leader and this certainly doesn't help prove anyone who shares that belief wrong. Philip Rivers, who played through a torn ACL (much worse injury), might be just as big an ahole as Cutler but at least he's a leader and shows that he gives a damn about whether his team wins or loses.
Also, to JJLehto's point about Collins:
Does it shock anyone else that so many teams are willing to have these completely spent, dead armed, stiff vets as their backup QBs? Anyone see who was warming up to possibly come in when Sanchez got hit? Fourty year old Mark Brunell! The guy was struggling to throw the ball five yards seven years ago. I understand wanting a vet around to talk to the young guys but have them as 3rd string because having guys like Brunell, Collins (Todd or Kerry), or Brad Johnson (who the Cowboys had to use in 08) one injury away from starting is a much bigger disaster than giving a young guy a shot.

Funny...this isn't the first time the Bears went down to their 3rd string QB. Happened against the Giants. Their 2nd string is Todd Collins.....yeah....might as well bump Hanie up to that one

I hate Cutler. But this recent "toughness" controversy he's in has nothing to do with it in anyway. I laughed when I heard the talking heads say "I will never question a players injury, but I will question his mental toughness" Sooooo you don't deny he's injured but he's a wuss for not going out? Seems like a long way of doubting his injury. Banged up broken finger...sure. But if he's seriously hurt....cmon! What the f**k do these people want? He IS an epic a****le, and not as great a QB as he gets credit for but this whole thing is ridiculous. Like when LT got hurt and couldn't play that game against the Pats a few years ago. He took a ton of flak for it. He's a running back and got a leg injury! Christ people The fact I need to defend Cutler makes me feel even angrier

Yeah, bottom line is Cutler probably couldn't go, but it's not like that mitigates the fact that he's a d-bag.

I dislike Jay Cutler intensely. That being said, I've had a torn ACL (not an MCL) and it hurt to even walk out to the car to drive to work. Hurt as in 'maybe I ain't going nowhere today'.
I question his mental toughness. But if he could not plant and throw, well yes get out of the game.
I'm in Seahawk territory. There was a game several years ago, I don't remember which one but it had some importance, and ol' Shaun Alexander is 'hurt' and hanging out on the sidelines. Not hurt enough, mind you, to not be whooping it up when the Seahawks scored. But the fans amongst us started to question his heart at those times. I think that's what's happened to Cutler. Maybe, just maybe, he should have shown a little emotion, been in the game a bit, maybe patting that third stringer on the butt.

I agree, Hanie performed pretty damn well for a third string quarterback with virtually no gametime experience, and in an NFC game no less! I feel kind of sorry for him.

Here it comes. The #1 scoring defense against the #2 scoring defense on neutral ground with the #2 defense team having a slightly better offense. An evenly-matched game if ever there was one.
I'm still going with the #1 scoring defense. That's the way the game is supposed to be played.
