Some record stores will remove scratches for you if they're only on the surface. Never heard a CD crackle though. Maybe it's the player.
It's the only CD that crackles-it has no scratches at all. A guy in Germany made it for me.

If it's an actual CD-recordable, you either have the files or can find them somewhere, so there's really not much to worry about. I have a feeling Doug meant CD-ROM, though.

If it's a CD-R, i am fairly sure I've read that they degrade over time.

Phil Collins is one of my musical heroes. 

Plus i had a particularly great late-night walk tonight. Blasting "Accept Yourself" with the feels then into Glass Kites' Slowly (Home).

Yeaup. Boxer is also worth checking out although it's my least favorite of latter-day National. I've never been able to get into their first two, though. They didn't really find their sound until Alligator

I like the fact that Mastodon's new album title has the acronym of OATS.

In other news, i'm listening to Phil Collins' greatest hits and wishing they han't omitted a couple of my favorite ballads in favor of some of the more corny upbeat tunes. Its only 74 minutes long THEY COULD HAVE INCLUDED DO YOU REMEMBER... WHY DO I HAVE TO HEAR TWO HEARTS INSTEAD OH GOD WHY WHY
