I had this crazy dilemna with God speed. I actually started to get into them, and started to enjoy their music. But I got to the point where It was between understanding it, and the feeling of wasting my time. I had a choice to either keep listening and feel like I was wasting my time, or I could just move onto the many other mental progressive rock adventures that awaited. I chose to move on. Even to this day I regret it. :( but I don't think I'll ever treck back to it (not implying a regression).

I know what you mean
They are kind of like a morph between prog and post prog/math rock. Excellent but undefinable at times. Put it this way they represent a more complex sound and repetitive so listening to them in the NOW is more relevant than say a nostagic revisit to their music in 10 years time. And if you have just got into F&%K Infinity in 2007 ( in my case) or whatever then so be it.

Well, awhile back my top three were in this order:
Tool The Beatles Pink Floyd
However, in recent weeks, I have been different. Right now, The Beatles are taking a backseat, and one other band has bumped Pink Floyd up to second place.
The order now stands as this:
Tool Pink Floyd Porcupine Tree
. . . Absolutely

Very close to mine, my friend. I'd just replace Frost* by Symphony X or Satellite. But Frost* is great too !

I can't really think of one. I tried but I can't think of ranking any of my favorite bands. Right now I'm really digging Kevin Moore era Dream Theater, Yes, Travis Larson Band ( check these guys out, simply awesome progressive fusion), Peter Gabreil era Genesis, The Mars Volta and Mastodon. If you asked me a month ago that list would include Pink Floyd, Beatles, The Who and Jethro Tull but I haven't listened to them in a month or so.

Taking last.fm data from the past six months, my favorite three are....
1. The Flower Kings
2. Yes
3. Genesis
The only real surprise here is the ordering.
