Hi,

In the special about Funkadelic, the story seems to be that all the musicians never got paid ... lots of dope was given them for/during the performance! It was very uncool, in so many ways, and some of the women in the special were not happy about it at all!
Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! Not being told!

iconic...

“We took that in Macon,” he recalls. “We were up at daylight out there to take the photo and we were all real grumpy"

“This dude Duane knew came walking down the sidewalk and Duane jumped up and ran over and scored from this guy, then came back and sat down and we were all laughing, and that’s the photo captured on the cover. If you look at Duane’s hand, you can see him hiding something there"

If a guy can’t get weed, he isn’t going to die, like a performer who can’t get his benzos for example. There could be delays, even with a private jet (weather, mechanical problems, etc), and other delays by the “connection”… Alcohol withdrawal can also kill you, but that’s a little easier, but one guy who doesn’t have his opiates could really screw up a show, even if the other guys are healthy.

I read Keith Richards autobiography a couple months ago and he tells a story about how he was caught by the police in Texas and he had to hurry to flush all of his cocaine down the toilet.

Paul McCartney seemed to carry pot and not even try to hide a ton of it.. I thought that's what roadies were for! I never understood stars carrying stuff.

Do some guys go out on their own? Going into a street or club knowing they'll find it, or find someone who'll find it for them? Certain guys knowing they wouldn't even have to ask before they were offered some?

I'm guessing some bands/artists organized this before touring certain cities, making sure the stuff was available when they got there. But to go back to awful addictions, what if there was a delay, airplane problems.. The press agents can say someone is "sick"

Or if you know any interesting stories, please list what you can if you have the time.. The Eagles had a close call but I guess Irving Azoff talked to Customs and got them off, because they would have gotten in big trouble. I don't want to screw up the details, since I only know about it when "The History of the Eagles" was first released.

I am reading up on Fleetwood Mac (the Stevie Nicks/Lindsey Buckingham lineup) and at one point, there was a cocaine hour in their official tour schedule.  Yup. The answer to your question might be that the level of excess from the 60s to the 80s was simply unthinkable, especially for those of us born later who have seen the music industry go through harder and harder times.  It was the opposite back then.  They could act like divas and get away with it and so they did.

Money for dope, man.

I never heard of any of those stories.

I know the latter is Clapton.
