There's two I like on here including Nik's debut with help from some of the Gong guys and Warrior On The Edge Of Time which I picked.

All are excellent, but Warrior of the Edge of Time gets my vote.

I'll remember to include Nik Turner's "I Do What I Like" album in the Ultimate Hawkwind 2020-2022 poll.

Astounding for sure. Cool tunes on this.
Warrior is pretty average. Sounds like a band from 1970 with some promise. Doesn’t sound like a 1975 album. It’s better than anything they did before it though |
||
All I like is prog related bands beginning late 60's/early 70's. Their music from 1968 - 83 has the composition and sound which will never be beaten. Perfect blend of jazz, classical, folk and rock.

This poll is a little bit easier for me.
"Warrior on the Edge of Time" is the stand out album here IMHO, and the end of an era. Edited by Hugh Manatee - November 13 2022 at 15:58 |

I'd love to have included that album too but I couldn't find a link for it on YouTube - only a brief album trailer and the title track.

You've missed his 2021 lp 'I do what i like' with the guys from Sendelica. Its a really poignant lp, particularly the spoken word piece 'I do what i like' which always felt like an epitaph

All of Nik Turner's albums are coming up later in this series of polls, but there's no need to wait that long as they're all listed below, including his latest 2022 album "Synchronicity". ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Warrior was the last lp on UA and the last lp with Lemmy so really belongs with Hall of the mountain grill and the preceding UA lps. Their time at Charisma heralded a very different sound but equally edgy feel (with the sacking of Nik Turner and the return of Robert Calvert).
So i've got to pick Warrior as its a stone cold classic. But ive also got to pick Quark as the herald of the new sound.. i also really really love Astounding too.. and Hawklords 25 years.. and even PXR5 (i know it was cobbled together to fulfill the Charisma contract but, c'mon, its got Robot, High rise, Uncle Sam's on Mars, Death Trap....!!)

I was expecting a Nik Turner poll to commemorate the Thunder Rider. I first saw Nik with ICU rather than Hawkwind and then several times after he rejoined them in the early 80s including the memorable Stonehenge festival. I think the last time I saw him must have been with his Fantastic All-Stars at Nottingham's Bier Keller. My favourite from this list has to be from the Calvert era so in Nik's memory it has to be 'Astounding Sounds'
