A very surprising win for Queensryche, Cardiacs and Talk Talk, although I suspect it's no surprise to anyone else here.

It may be noticed and curious enough that not all the bands included in Wikipedia's Timeline of Progressive Rock are considered Prog in Wikipedia's articles about those bands.

Voted for Three just barely above Steve Hackett.
2 great albums not listed: Billy Currie w/Steve Howe: Transportation, and Andy Summers: Mysterious Barricades.

I don't think FW has ever created a "nadir". They have never released a bad album.

Pretty awful year for prog. By this point I believed music was on its knees until Enya released the sublime Watermark album. I also loved Al Stewart's 'Crossover prog' album The Last Days Of The Century and Vangelis released one of his best albums Direct after he had relocated back to Greece.

I can see it from both points of view... it's good, but has a certain starkness which divides opinion. FWX was the nadir in my view..

That's their nadir, I'm afraid. I'd backtrack to Perfect Symmetry / Parallels or jump ahead to Darkness in a Different Light / Theories of Flight, where they regained their mojo.

'89 timeline is also missing Gretchen Goes to Nebraska by King's X, which is my all time favorite of theirs. Will vote for Out of the Silent Planet here. |

Actually, I find Part One quite spooky too, and it took some listenings before I really could like it. Btw, it's interesting to get acquainted with Wikipedia's Progressive Rock timeline.
