Security is great and probably my second favorite but I voted for Car at least partly because I like the eclectic nature of it. There's everything from art rock to folk rock to blues rock to hard rock to barbershop to symph prog on it.

yeah but Gabriel is so eclectic (and uncompromising) that it's extremely hard to love what he does, he makes it's a challenge for sure.  My take is that he had to distance himself as far from Genesis as he could and that meant that concepts were mostly out the door. He also famously made Collins leave all his symbols and the high hat behind when he played on PG3. Still amuses me to this day but the result isn't bad that's for sure!

Hi,

While there are a lot of nice things in many of these albums, in the end, I am not a PG fan. For someone that (supposedly) was upset that his TLLDOB (at least it was a bit so on the pull out of the MM article when he left), all of his material since then had no concept ... just songs ... and even though I saw him in concert and enjoyed it (his first tour), in the end, I ended up thinking that I was not enthused by just a bunch of songs about everything out there!

He's nice, and I will likely get a CD or two (have the first 4 or 5), as the recent album shows ... it's more of the same ol' stuff!
Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! Not being told!

Difficult choice, but I choose Security, songs like "San Jacinto", "Lay Your Hands on Me" and especially the wonderful "Wallflower" are some of Peter Gabriel's best.

First, and possibly only vote for Passion. Very different from the rest of his music, but I contend it is still the best thing he has ever done. After that, it will be Melt, Security, Up, and Car.

I didn't include Ovo mainly because I wasn't familiar with it. I almost wasn't going to include the second one (Scratch) because I figured no one would vote for it. So far I'm right. ;)

I feel the same way. I don't think the album as a whole is my favorite of all time (although maybe top 20) but Solsbury Hill is probably my all time favorite song also.

I recall waiting for the first solo album (Car) to come out, purchasing it on the day it was released, hearing the opening bouncing bass of Moribund the Burgermeister, and thinking “This is going to be great!”

...Had the same reaction to Dance on a Volcano off TOTT.
