Quote I posted the old site image for people to see the original genres.
Absolutely! But for those who'd like to discuss the banners, I made an appropriate thread. Poll included.

Art-rock is the first one there.
Also no heavy-prog. Big smile

Italian instead of Rock Progressivo Italiano. LOL
Where would we be without our Heavy Prog and where on earth would we place Uriah Heep? Geek

I don't know how they ended up in neo-prog long ago. I think the crossover tag did not even exist back then, it was just "art-rock" which split  in crossover and eclectic.

To be frank, I think the old banner looked a quadrillion times better than the one we have currently. IMO the retrofuturistic grid look with the musical instruments far in the background displayed a lot more class and elegance than the badly photoshopped characters cutout from prog album sleeves with that cheap white glow effect this site uses now. Sometimes less is more.

As per PA

The neo-prog team has also decided on 5 representative albums of neo-prog that encapsulate the essence of the genre. They are as follows:

Marillion-Script for a Jester's Tear
Collage-Moonshine
Satellite-A Street Between Sunrise and Sunset
Sylvan-Posthumous Silence
Frost-Milliontown

interesting!

Well I first visited this site around 2017 or so, and that was well after the art rock tag was split. I just remember seeing it under crossover, but I guess I'm wrong.

I'm perfectly fine with Frost* being labelled Neo Prog here at PA. Even Wikipedia has Frost* tagged as Neo Prog, and they hardly ever label any band as Neo Prog. Talking of Frost*, it's a bit nippy outside today.  Tongue

^ hard to say. There used to be a 'art rock' category as well but that went. Still not sure what Crossover really is anyway. I mean Kate Bush, Supertramp and Big Big Train are not alike in any way whatsoever. I think it exists mainly to put pop orientated prog bands in it. Jem Godfrey was heavily involved in the UK pop scene back in the 90's (Atomic Kitten mainly) as a producer so that's where the connection to that comes from hence Christi's comment. No real connection to Neo whatsover. I would put them in eclectic nowadays personally.

I had a hard time with that Frost* debut and don't play it as much as Falling Satellites or Day and Age. It's still 'better' than Magenta's Home (and New York Suite but isn't that just the same album re-edited?) which was a noble attempt to put Christina more at the helm of the band. Didn't work for me.

Although neo-prog? Maybe new-prog or modern-prog…..

True, maybe crossover is a better fit. Good album and band anyway. Smile
