I was probably trying to avoid obvious big hitters that would have swallowed up the votes so no Deep Purple In Rock either which might even have a stronger case.

From 1970, what about Van der Graaf Generator - H to He, Who am the Only One, or Van der Graaf Generator - The Least We Can Do Is Wave to Each Other? Hugh Banton's organ was a major component of VdGG's music, although it is not clear to me if it could be said that VdGG's music is "organ driven", given that David Jackson's woodwinds are also a major component of VdGG's sound. |

No, I know how to behave in the restaurant now, I don't tear at the meat with my hands. If I've become a man of the world somehow, that's not necessarily to say I'm a worldly man.

According to Wikipedia, the Hammond B3 solo on "Hold Your Head Up" has been described by keyboard-player Rick Wakeman as the "greatest organ solo ever." |

That Egg album is great fun, so it go my vote. I would have voted Beggar's Opera, if the album option was Waters of Change (or Pathfinder). I've enjoyed the rest of these at some pint too, although none of them has stuck with me through the years. I should probably give that Quartermass album a second listen one of these days. As the first and only was a couple of decades ago.

It's a solid list, though to be honest, a bit too Anglocentric for my taste.

Hi,
QUATERMASS for sure .... and it still sounds great, unlike some of the others that sound dated.

Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! Not being told!

Yes and amongst the great keyboard players of the era - Wakeman, Wright, Emerson & Lord - Rod Argent gets a bit overlooked, as does Vince Crane.

It's a moot point - Discogs lists it as 1969 but according to Wikipedia it was recorded in 1969 and released in January 1970 - so technically I guess it scrapes in.

according to PA that's 1969. Great organist though, probably even better than Keith Emerson and Jon Lord on that instrument. BTW I deliberately left off the 'heavy hitters' (ELP and Deep Purple) from the poll as well as Yes - Time And A Word which could also qualify (Tony Kaye is another great of the organ imo)

I know and like most of the selections, and I'm going with Egg over Quatermass.

Music has always been a matter of energy to me. On some nights I believe that a car with the needle on empty can run 50 more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio. Hunter S Thompson
