You must have VDGG! My favorite band. Hawkwind are also great space rock, and Gentle Giant are simply great.

  • Rush Dead
  • Gentle Giant - will get something from them at some stage
  • Frank Zappa
  • anything Zeuhl
  • Italian prog - with the exception of PFM - hope to explore this genre more in the future

I seem to have at least one album from most of the main groups or those that are considered "main" apart from the above.

King Crimson
Camel
VdGG
Dream Theater
Porcupine Tree
Kansas
Gentle Giant

...I don't have much at all...
Unfortunately for me, I have to drive for 30 minutes to get to the nearest CD store, and they don't have much prog. Unless, of course, hip hop is the new prog. In that case, the store is pretty much loaded.

I bought some GG, VDGG, Camel, and Renaissance. I traded them in at the local CD swap shop. Never looked back. I tried, lord knows how I tried, but I couldn't get into those bands.

2 i like to get a feel for one particular band or genre before i move on.
so right now the bands that i do own are

GG
Rush
Kansas
Return To Forever
ELP
Jethro Tull

I admit it, I'm kinda a prog newbie.. but I dont have any Genesis (which I dont care too much about from what I've heard) , Yes (which I do like but haven't gotten around to getting), King Crimson (which I have never heard, rather suprisingly), or any Krautrock, Canterbury, Zeuhl or Italiano. That is my confession... *sobs*.
Many Bothans died to bring you this information.

Let's try genres:

Any Italian  Prog
Any Zeuhl (I want to get into Magma soon, though)
Any Progressive Electronic (Though I'm looking into Kraftwerk)
Any Jazz Fusion
Any Neo
Any Prog-Metal besides Tool
Any Psychadelic/ Space Rock besides Pink Floyd
Any Canterbury besides Caravan

Yeah, I really, really suck...

I never bought an album by Rush, Frank Zappa and The Moody Blues. Maybe I will, some day. I do like Moving Pictures and The Days Of Future Passed. But will I ever buy a Frank Zappa album? I wonder.

I did buy an album from most of the big artists on PA, I think.

Well, I now narrowed it down to one... Beyond Twilight.

Pain of Salvation
Tool
Opeth

That sort of metal-ish stuff just doesn't suit me. I had PoS's "Be" for about a week and sold it back to the shop at a loss.

Also no Magma. Had a vinyl of theirs back in the late 70's but could never get into it. Might have to try that one again someday.
