Hey, guys! Thanks! I posted it here once over Unsigned Bands section, but it is just gone to nowhere, so I'm really glad to find it mentioned here :)

I tried to make some of my own video game music a while ago (not really 8 bit, but sounds similar). I used some generated loops and riffs and some of my own playing to come up with these. They are kind of lengthy, but I think they make out well for background music.
I'm still really digging that C-Jeff someone posted. Best $5 of my life! (even though it was free!) |

The other way around, if a prog band played this it would be incredible.

Not me, sadly. He is excellent, though. I also recommend the album "Level", which is great for listening to when playing games with boring/repetitive soundtracks. |

8-bit covers of prog songs are all well and good, but how about some original (i.e. not covers or game soundtracks) 8-bit music with a proggy feel: http://disasterpeace.com/album/neutralite

Really? Wow! I alway been a fan of FF and Nobuo's Music, and I think too that his music (and other soundtracks) is influenced by some prog and prog-related artists, especially Queen in my opinion. Edited by Ytse_Jam - January 24 2012 at 15:11 |

♦ I've always thought of most older video game soundtracks to be very progressive
When I first got into prog I often thought, "ha, that's like something straight out of a video game." Few have actually a full length 8bit prog album and if you have some time I suggest you listen to this guy's albums. If I hadn't of joined just recently I would make a suggestion of entry in the archives. This Preschtale album is a goddamn masterpiece, or at least it would be if it featured guitar on more than one song. |

I can't look up youtube or see any of these embeds... but the best 8 bit versions of bands to me are The Human Abstract, Gorod, and Gorguts. But I prefer original 8 bit music to redone versions. Looking at 8 bit collective is addictive... also Anamanaguchi/Horse the Band and stuff like that is awesome.I know chiptune based music is not as expansive as many other genres, but I feel like it almost deserves its own tab at PA. |

Yeah just listen to Final Fantasy soundtrack ! it's easy to hear the prog influences. It's seems very clear when you know that Nobuo Uematsu was in a ELP tribute band when he was young. Also you should check his band The Black Mages. Here is their page on PA http://www.progarchives.com/artist.asp?id=2406 . Now back to the Topic hehe
