Just come across this album and I really like it.

The vocals are rather different but sometimes different is good, as here.

Have to say reading the contributions from July I found the pomposity of ExittheLemming rather extraordinary. Came across as a total t**t.

The attitude was everything I detest about up their own arse music snobs.

Well, the voice like that one can like or not. Personally, I have no problem with the singer's theatrical voice.
However, regarding that production, I think that they didn't produced it bad, I think that they didn't do any mistake on the record production. They actually produced their album in a retro style and some kind of , say, "wall of sound" would only to destroy that pure magic of Napier's Bones' magnificent debut.

Yes. This is my opinion. I listened to their album 3 times. Its not boring for me but their music rate is 2-2.5 star IMO. They are a "Prog Rock" band if I like or don't like them.

Wow! - The plot thickens! Smoke  I'd never even considered Eclectic for these guys to be perfectly honest.  So...Up to yet we've had; Prog Folk, Neo, Crossover (x2)...and now Eclectic (x2) as a suggested home for Napier's Bones. I guess it's probably all gonna boil down to which team wants to be the next in the queue the most!  LOL Scott has alread hinted here that Crossover might well be worth a punt, but the guys from the Eclectic team rarely seem to pass through these parts of late, so a note in their team thread will be needed if that is indeed where the Bones are gonna be headed next.  Embarrassed

My vote is for Crossover, not Eclectic.

For your information me and Matti voted actually for eclectic, there are strong orchestral elements with powerful Mellotron, FLOYD-ian touches and heavier flashes in this album and I fail to detect any accesible, poppy or easy-listening pieces, which are closer to Xover principles.

As much as I don't like this album, it would probably best fit into Crossover.

With better production and a different vocalist, it could be good.

Let's start a new sub-genre: "Retro-Prog"  (no.  don't)
Trust me. I know what I'm doing.

Two 'move' votes cast, with just Damox left to go (who I'm sure will follow suit), so it's looking as though Crossover will be the team that decides the fate of Napier's Bones after all. Will continue to monitor developments, and post updates here as and when they happen (if nobody from the team does, that is). Smile

Oh and regarding that use of mellotron at this stunning album, the fans of that fantastic instrument can hear so beautiful choir 'tron at the track no. 4 titled Room 237.
