^ I've heard a couple of tracks. Good stuff, but, sadly for me who doesn't own a turntable, it's a vinyl only release (I think), so I won't be purchasing.

Also, it features Motorpsycho bassist and vocalist Bent Sæther too, if I'm not mistaken.

Has anyone checked out the new band Spidergawd? It features prominent Motorpsycho drummer Kenneth Kapstad who at the moment seems to be featured on all experimental albums coming out of Norway.
It's on it's way to me as we speak, but I haven't heard anything from it as of yet other than it being psychedelic (which was the clincher for me).

Just found this tune:

The psychedelic rock thing wasn't a joke on their behalfLOL

As far as prog goes, I haven't heard too many 2014 albums.

IQ - The Road of Bones
Phish - Fuego

Those are two albums that I find to be really good.

I just listened to this - musical magic!  Thanks for the tip.

I see you have Combat Astronomy on your list - don't know if you were aware that another project with Martin Archer, Orchestra of the Upper Atmosphere, also had their second album out this year? Very good indeed (better than the first album, for my money).

Np! It's quite wonderful indeed.

And nice! I was indeed unaware. I'll def be on the lookout for it. Thumbs Up

Long John Sailor prog lives!!!

I'd say they have received a fair bit of reviews compared to 95% of the other 2014 releases though.

From Steve's thread, these are some of my favorite new discoveries of the year.
Complete with brief description and some samples.  I tend to search for the smaller and  under-the-radar type performers, which is why you'll find few if any big names on my list.  But I think there's some good stuff here.  Hope you find something you like.  Smile

Over the Earth - catchy as hell crossover band
Nomads of Hope - experimental folk, fans of Vashti Bunyan, Pererin, Samla Mammas Manna check it out
Nucleus Torn - Swiss woodlands folk metal
Mushroom Giant - muscular instrumental rock
Earth - desert psych for wild misadventures
Tacita Intesa - new RPI with impressive debut
Secret Tales - fantasy, folk, heavy, female vocals, good D and D soundtrack
Lowercase Noises - discovered them prior to this year but this is likely my album of the year pick
Seris - tight metal with unique female vocals
Mursic - theatrical symph metal with pop sensibilities
S91 - Italian symph metal with female vocals
Igayon - Israeli symph outfit with a friendly, intimate sound
Dying Sun - brutal extreme metal squall, not for the weak of heart
Kevin Geier - talented multi instrumentalist
Superfluous Motor - cool instrumental fusion concept album
Voice of Eye - rediscovered the trippy, experimental tribal ambient masterpiece called "Vespers"

I chose my top ten based on what I was really addicted to this year.  Some of the other favs could eventually slip in to the top ten if I had more time with them.

Just like last year, I will probably find all kinds of good stuff after the fact, but here's my top 10 albums of 2014:
1. Kayo Dot - Coffins on Io
Listen: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YnIu7lp5mxE

2. Liars - Mess
Listen: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F2Y0S23gLok

3. Seven Impale - City of the Sun
Listen: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tPjVR1CMc0M

4. Giant Squid - Minoans
Listen: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m4aB3nm1HCg

Listen: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZCof5zt7QYQ

Listen: https://sorne.bandcamp.com/album/house-of-stone-death-i

8. Ishraqiyun - Perichoresis
Listen: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=51GLBK47ekU

9. Knifeworld - The Unravelling
Listen: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8PX5KKQqN-c
