I propose a solution:

let us choose any new member after having verified his reliability:

those new members should be invited here, taken from other music sites, like me, so that it would be possible to evaluate their behaviour from the posts they make on the other musical boards.

for instance, useful idiot, me and some other members here come from rateyourmusic.com

everybody knows that it takes members like us.

there are tons of prog fans who would be happy to discover the advantages of being a member of PA!Smile

I joined the forum a bit over a month ago, but I'm sorry to say I've noticed all the problems mentioned by Peter. I checked the thread about your favourite keyboardist in the Prog Polls section, and what I found was two or three guys insulting each other in their native language. Not to mention the threads which are disparaging to women or make fun of aging musicians' appearances. When I joined this forum, it was to talk about my favourite kind of music (though, according to some, as a woman I'm not supposed to understand anything about it), not to see an increasing amount of thug-like behaviour. I don't know whether there's anything to be done about such people, who seem to infest any kind of forum or discussion board - but I really hope people like Peter and Snow Dog don't give up this place, because it needs them!

Seriously, I think that my continuing to read 90% of the crap that is posted lately will inevitably destroy my motivation to write reviews... Does anyone else out there feel increasingly angered, depressed, and "de-motivated" when reading the barrage of outright twaddle that seems to typify this place these days?  Confused

 

Yes, Peter, I share your feeling. It's a healthy idea to spend less time reading all this crap in the forum. I have a posting rate getting down to 2 per day and I'm satisfied with that. Most of the threads I don't even read at all. Don't lose your head!
