I remember liking it a lot, but havn't listened to it in at least 2 years, I suppose I wouldn't like it much now, but I remember Hearts was my favourite track

Rating: probably ***

Enjoyed it very much....7.5/10 and the tour was great (83 April, Indianapolis, IN).

Dreadful.

Terrible.

Awful.

Horrendous.

A gigantic plastic StarWars bowlingball of shreiky noise and fluff.

That about covers it.

It's OK if you like it. But, IMO, Yes has done so much better than that.

hmmm... its not the worst album I've ever heard, but if you compare it to any other Yes album it sucks. I can understand why some people enjoy it, but I would rather spend my listening time on something like CTTE or Fragile.

I agree. 90125 speaks for itself, and many people bought it, but when you think how great were their past albums, you definitly feel something very important is missing and this makes you sad.

You can analize 90125 in terms of classical Yes albums, when you ponder balance of Jon & Steve vs Chris & Alan and the role of Rick and Bill. For old yesfan it is a shock to hear Jon doing backing vocals and ordinary guitar and keyboard solos from Trevor and Tony.

yet you still have time!

RaphaelT sums it. I thought it was quite good, but as diehard Yes fan, it wasn't Yes, more like another group formed with some Yes members. Those new to Yes won't have these preconceptions and will find it quite interesting.

for a pop/rock album *****

for a prog rock album *****

I thought leave it would have been really cool if GG had written the vocal arrangement, which I think is pretty cool already.

I don't like 90125 much. It's nothing compared to old yes and even when not
comparing it, its still not that good. It's not a good rock album IMO either.
Like I said in a previous thread: Compare 90125 to any Zeppelin album or
any Cream album. 90125 doesn't even come close. Though there is much
hatred towards Tormato, it is thousands of miles beyond 90125 IMO
(though it sometimes gets credited as even worse than 90125, how I don't
understand.)

It is an OK album, but in terms of big good as a 'Yes' album...no it is crap..

Compared to the rest of their output before it it is just a plain rock album, I was dreadfully disappointed when I got the record home in 1983. All I could think, was "what is this pop album?" ...the tour was good though, even if there were few REAL Yes songs..

I totally rate it as I do ALL of the Rabin-era Yeas albums ('Talk' is my favourite). Trevor Rabin is often attacked by 70's era fans of the band who refuse to give him any credit for the contributions to the band. This view is ridiculous in my opinion, because without Rabin that band would have completely disappeared altogether. Without taking away the contributions of Messrs. Squire and White, Trevor Rabin almost singlehandedly saved the band from extinction in the early 80's. The die-hards will continue to contest that he cheapened the sound of Yes by making them more mainstream and commercially minded, but I am probably alone in saying that he brought a breath of fresh air to Anderson's (at times) barely decipherable rhetoric.

Unfortunately for the band, Rabin left and no one stepped in to take the helm. The subsequent patchy and unsuccessful albums polarised the fan base to a short list of hardcores (witness the low turnout at Yes concerts since 'Talk'), and stripping the band of any credibility in the music business (witness their demise to obscure record labels). I rest my case.....

90125 is a really great album ! It's sure that you cannot compared it to close to the edge or going for the one or the yes album. But I love it as I love and then there were three by genesis...and we cannot compared this one to foxtrot or nursery cryme !!

It's not because close to the edge is better that 90125 is a bad album !

I think the musical style of the album is crappy, but I can't judge the quality of that album objectively. "Owner..." is a catchy pop song, no doubt about it.

90125 is an iconic 80's rock album. Standing alongside the rest of the Yes catalogue it doesn't fair well, but in isolation of that I;d say it's a great album.
Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy!

As with Open your eyes, Yes tried something never done before by them with 90125.
And they succeeded in penning a huge hit with Owner of a lonely heart, plus other outstanding numbers(the wonderful Changes with its multiple sections nad its two lead singers, the amazing Leave it with gorgeous vocal harmonies, the beautiful and brief instrumental Cinema, the powerful Hold On and It can happen)

Then ok, we have Our song that is less than memorable...but all in all is an outstanding and crafty effort and who cares if definitely prog or not!

My rating:
A flower?
