Bernhard Herrmann who did the original music for many Hitchcock films including North by Northwest, Vertigo and Psycho.
John Barry for the music for Bond and numerous other films, including
Midnight Cowboy. Also he did the theme music to the Persuaders TV
series with Roger Moore and Tony Curtis which was just so cool.....
Personally I don't like John Williams scores because they never seem to add much to the film itself.
Of "prog" artists I was pleasantly suprised by Vangelis' contribution
to "Chariots of Fire". I quite enjoyed "White Rock" with Rick Wakeman's
score.

Great call on Bernard Herrmann. Goldsmith's good too, I don't watch all that many films though so I don't know much.

BTW, I have an album soundtrack by Tangerine Dream called "the Sorcerer" but it's not on the imdb.com list either ... strange?

Definitley with you on that one. Along with Goldsmith, Herrmann, and Danny Elfman has been not to shabby either.
