Just trying to get an idea of how Australia's ADSL broadband plans compare to the rest of the world. Most ISP (Internet Service Provider) plans in Australia give the subscriber a download limit (though these plans are called unlimited). Once the limit is reached the connection is shaped to 72Kbs. My connection is: - 1500/256Kbs
- 50GB/month shaped to 72Kbs when reached within the month
- $79/month AU
- ADSL 1
ADSL 2 is available on limited metropolitan exchanges. What speeds would be common in your country, is ADSL 1 or 2 the norm, and do your ISP's shape on a monthly limit?

about 90% of the country can get broadband connection today...ofcouse i am not in that part and uses ISDN
the regular broadband connection today is 2500/400 but in 2010 we will get wimax all over the country 
also there is not a download cap...it just a regular fee that you pay each month

ntl: are to upgrade the standard to 10Mbps next year in the UK - probably higher thereafter, but 10Mbps is the highest that the hardware they supplied to most people can handle.

for the price of 85£ a month you can get 20mbps in norway

This month NTL has upgraded all its 300K customers to 1 Mb. Due to this they have introduced a download limit of 3 Gb a month. I don't know what happens when you reach this limit yet, I''l find out in due course.
The monthly cost is £17.99

I think you guys are talking about what I would term ADSL 2- up to 24Mbs, compared to ADSL 1 at a top speed of 1.5Mbs

still wimax gets my support with a max of 50mbps in a 10km range and about 10mbps in 50km range compared to adsl wich got 5km range and adsl 2 wich is even shorter

Yeah, you are right there Maidenz. They have upped ADSL 1 to 7km in Australia, though I'd hate to be over the 5km limit

^ No just one of them, its not completely national either, but they provide telephone and cable TV service too

Yea i live 7km away from the adsl central...2km short...that sucks 
i could have had some one that was 5km away to transfer it wireless the last 2 km for a minor decrease in speed although it is far too much work

How about someone from America- what broadband solutions are common there. America would share some of the problems inherent with ADSL and distance limits, as Australia has. How does your country deal with isolated communities and broadband?

I'm in Scotland and my isp is Telewest blue yonder.....they have upgraded my internet connection from 1mb to 4mb for no additional price, £25.99 a month. And there is no cap on how much i can download.

Here on the Isle of Man, about 98% of homes have access to broadband.
Costs are slightly higher than in the UK - I pay just under £30 per month
