You should read Ghormenghast by Mervyn Peake; the guy spends three pages describing how one character walks.... Well worth the effort to read, though! |

Personally I though Dune was brilliant, Dune Messiah not as good, and the books got progressively worse as the series went on. |

Well...that's your opinion. I thought Dune,Dune Messiah,Children of Dune and God Emperor of Dune were excellent(I really like Leto II's character) Heretics and Chapterhouse didn't "wow" me like the other ones did though. And I think all the prequel books are dreck, but the Butlerian Jihad books were a little bit better than the House trilogy. |

Actually, I think that the Discworld books are getting better. I really like the first ones, but books like Interesting Times and Monstrous Regiment are more than only extremly funny. Btw, I also read the Wee Free men books. They seem to be childrens books, but there is no problem to read them as an adult. (it's not written in the 'childish' Harrie Potter style) |

Just finished reading a Robert Rankin novel that my boyfriend lent me: The ANTIPOPE which is the first book in THE BRENTFORD SERIES...amaaaaZingly funny! "Omally looked up at the sky, "Sometimes...I wonder" Yes" replied Archroy sipping his beer. "Sometimes I wonder if there are people up there wondering if there are people down here too." (Or something like that!) hehehehe!! |

Pratchett's Discworld series (and a part of me is embarassed to admit I'm a fan) seemed to dip a bit in quality a few years ago with Maskerade, but the books since The Truth have all been excellent, perhaps because he has largely abandoned his old character driven stories in favour of books which just explore the possibilities of his fantasy world. The Wee Free men books are also extremely funny. |

I was a bit upset with Dune. I thought it was a good book, but it was just a philosophical and "physical" (as in dealing with physics of life and such) in a sci-fi setting. I like pure fantasy and sci-fi books, without the author stuffing in a whole bunch of scientific nonsense. Can you or anyone please recommend me some books like that? Thanks if you can!!!. |

Two fantasy writers I like: Terry Pratchett and to a much lesser extent Thomas Holt. Both funny, Pratchett often hilariousIMHO. |
