Your Favorite Bassist?

Im obsessed with the Bass Guitar and obviously Prog is a great genre to listen to with its large array of Brilliant Bassist.Most of the best Bass players in the world can be found in progressive rock bands.

I cant really pick just one but:  Les Claypool(my hero),Chris Squire etc..

So who's your favorite Bassist? No need for a poll

Also,If you know of any eclectic interesting Basisists New or Old please let me know.

Well, it's true. Punk and some rock too destroy the reputation of the bass guitar....sadly.

How is this Sean Mallone I've heard of?

Helmut Hattler of Kraan and Guru Guru is definitely worth checking out. He should be much better known, but Guru Guru and Kraan are probably too obscure. He also played in short-lived projects like Liliental, Highdelberg or Tab Two and published one solo album (Bassball, showing him swinging his bass guitar like a baseball-bat hitting a ball at you on the cover). In the 70s he won many bass polls in German music magazines, against excellent players like Squire or Pastorius.
Another one that should be named: Gerald Luciano Hartwig of Karthago, Embryo, Guru Guru and the Roman Bunka Band (a German guitar and oud player who also deserves a lot more attention; he used to play with Embryo). I am pretty sure that, as usual, no-one is going to check out my recommendations though.

what about john wetton? . he did some amazing stuff in his crimson times (a bit less later)

And usually the best bass players plays either jazz or funk

Chris Squire! Bass is the most influencial instrument in prog!
