HI !

I really like this type of titles, so I am looking for classical music played by "metal" bands or by electrical guitars like SymphonyX (who played BACHS) or Patrick Rondat (Vivaldi), Savatage (Mozart, Grieg).

Do you know bands or artists playing this type of titles ?

Thanks a lot, because it's hard to find !

Steve Howe does quite a few on his solos - though this is probably not the style you were after.

Well, you have to know Yngwie already, right?

How about Jason Becker? He has some Bach influenced work, like Serrana, End of the Begining, and Air.

--> I do it now ! thanks !
--> Ediit : So I find this band too hard and  dark for me. I have seen all related bands from Voivod description (on proarchives) and it is the same feeling, too hard, too dark. But now I know this bands and what it is.

--> I have NEVER listened to Yngwie, I know this artist, but that's all. And it is the same about Jason Becker. I will do a search on the Web and obtain some "streaming" songs. Thank for your help.

I think Steve Vai just performed an Electric Guitar Concerto (Fire Strings composed by Ichiro Nodaira) with the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra as well as his own The Blossom Suite.

Check out Adagio

http://www.adagio-usa.com/news.htm

http://www.progarchives.com/Progressive_rock_discography_BAN D.asp?band_id=1783

and Artension

http://www.progarchives.com/Progressive_rock_discography_BAN D.asp?band_id=1569

Also go here: http://www.guitar9.com You'll find clips from lots and lots of guitarists there, including neoclassical guitarists (there is a neoclassical subsection there). I guess that apart from Malmsteen and Becker, George Bellas would be one of the most obvious choices, as well as people like Victor Smolski and Alex Massi.

Uli Jon Roth seems to speciallise in it - listen to the Transcendental Sky Guitar double CD (Inside Out Records), for Vivaldi through to Paganini.

Bill Berends with Mastermind, gives you a rendition of The William Tell Overture on their latest CD, Broken. Dave Edmunds gave us Sabre Dance in the mid 60's as minor hit (presumably as a reaction to Bee Bumble and the Stingers doing a Russ Conway on Nut Rocker - later acquired by ELP).

Gary Lucas has attacked Wagner and others on various of his albums - but you'll also find the Eastenders Theme and The Telly Tubbies there too.

There are a number of compilations issued by Magna Cartna Records in the early/mid 90's, samplers of their shreaders playing allsorts, but there two you will find the odd bit of Bach, etc. being tried out.

But what about the other way round, i.e. where classical trained musicians - best known for their serious music repertoise - play rock (But please avoid the cheese of the various symphony orchestra covers). Check out the two CDs:  Genesis For Two Grand Pianos. How many violinists (e.g. in string quartets) have tackled Hendrix: Kronos Q, Nigel Kennedy, Darol Anger with and without the Turtle Island String Quartet - he does Voodoo Chile as blue grass fiddle piece!!!

Thank you all for your great answers !

www.guitar9.com is fabulous ! Wah ! thetre is a listening room, you can listen to 5-6 samples (1mn each sample) of tiles  by album, and there are hundreds of albums (Mickael Romeo (SymphonyX guitarist), Patrick Rondat, and some CDs like "in the name of (mozart, beethove, Bachs...), some classical titles payed in heavy metal style. Search Alex MAsi, and sounds-like CD : ENJOY !

So I have found What I was looking for : THANK YOU TO EVERYONE, specially Manunking !
