Have any of you heard the guitar solo on Catch the Rainbow, off the album On Stage? My friend says it sounds a lot like Hendrix, but it has more emotion and is played more cleanly than Hendrix. Not to mention the tone! If you really listen on headphones itīs fantastic! |

It is indeed a great solo, but I'd say it sounds a lot like Blackmore. Saw him perform it live way back then.

Even I had not had a chance to catch the Rainbow with both Cozy Powell and Dio in the line-up Rising was THE album. Except for the terrible last track (thankfully it is short) on side 1, every tracks is more than brilliant. Never saw Rainbow, but I did see Deep Purple mark II, (2nd incarnation) in 1986. Blackmore sure can play the guitar, boys!

There is a new Rainbow Live ī77 DVD that is coming out in June. It will probably be the closest thing we will ever get to seeing the classic line-up with Dio and Powell

I not only saw the tour in 1977 but met Ritchie coming out the front door of the Liverpool Empire. This was only my second concert, the one before was Deep Purple's Burn tour.
Ritchie's Rainbow were excellent below the massive rainbow light stage and Powell doing the 1812 overture drum solo was something else. I did not think 'the stage' could be equalled as a version of the tour but I did buy a double cd' live in germany' which included Rainbow Rising = sadly missing off the stage album. I managed to see rainbow at least 3 times and this IMO was the best tour. Catch the rainbow really does hit you in the right spots.
I recommend if you love Ritchie you take the opportunity to see him with Blackmore Nights. He still does old classics - even Child in Time. The band are excellent |

I have some Blackmoreīs Night and I really enjoyed them in the beginning, but I think his glory days were with Rainbow in the ī70īs. You saw Rainbow 3 times and even met "The man in black!" You have had a great life! What can top that!! |

I saw Rainbow many times between 1977 and Cozy Powell's last performance with the band at Castle Donington. On Stage is a great live album with that awesome version of Mistreated and Catch The Rainbow. As previously stated I can see little to compare Blackmore's solos and any Hendrix stuff.Ritchie threw a lot of classical motifs into his,Hendrix (great as he was) stuck to psychedelic blues. By the way,Kev2307 means Stargazer not Rainbow Rising... I see a rainbow rising Magic! |

I also donīt see the big Hendrix influence, I think itīs very original. I usually listen on headphones because with Blackmore I hear something new everytime. He is the kind of guitarist you really have to listen to. My fav solos are Catch The Rainbow, Gates of babylon, Child in Time, Knockin at your back door, Wasted Sunsets etc etc! |

Some great instrumentals too: Weiss Heim and Vielleicht Das Nachste Mal are among the greatest Rock Instrumentals. Shame about most of the post-Dio era. For a couple of years they were the greatest hard rock band on Earth.

In case anybody cares Blackmore is on the cover of Classy Crock mag (that is Classic Rock bending the truths to make entertaining stories about big-mouthed rock stars) Apparently a six or seven pages in this months issue as the lost hero of rock. Probably whining about Ritchie not belting out power riffs anymore and doing his troubadour stuff. |

I heard Blackmoreīs Night doing the Rainbow song "Ariel" and it just doesnīt work with Candice Night on vocals. He is making quite the fool of himself these days prancing around in those Robin Hood tights
