The album I bought which I liked the least was Mars Volta - Frances the Mute. I couldn't even get to finish it.
My most recent disappointment was Dan Swano - -Moontower. Such excellent music spoilt by growling. Especially when he has such a great normal voice (Nightingale)

Because it's a good album.
I'm not to happy-dappy about buying "Islands" by King Crimson, but then again, I have that album by Lorraine, which is an abomination.

'Nevermind' is a classic. Fresh, to-the-point, kick-ass, killer production.
In short: a lot better than most progrecords ever made. But some people 'round here are a bit narrow-minded to say the least.
And this comes from a guy with ELP and Pink Floyd as his favorite bands
I'm not a fan of Nirvana, but I can hear and understand why it is a great record.
Worst purchase: 'Toilet Seat' by ELP

Really, Radiohead - OK Computer
Oasis - last one (can't even remember its name!!)
Prog.... Eloy - Planets
Dream Theatre - Images and Words, Scenes from metropolis...well, not that bad 
Rush - they were on sale then bought 2112, Moving pictures, hemispheres...how can a guy sing that terrible...his voice is really horrible....unlistenable

Well, I'm not sure 'Nevermind' is better than 'most prog records ever made' but I'd agree it is a modern classic. I bought it and loved it at the time, and thats from someone who regards Genesis and Renaissance as being among my favourites.. That said I always thought Pearl Jam were the best grunge band! 
I've never bought any prog albums that I've hated, but among those I've been dissapointed by are..
Zones - Hawkwind (Some reasonable songs, but terrible production and musicianship)
ELP - Works II (Weak and erratic IMO)
King Crimson - In the Wake of Posseidon (Noisy and chaotic and not to my taste)
Train of Thought - Dream Theater (Far too heavy for me)

Thats fair enough. I dont think it warrents burning you alive..
Rush, for me are one of the best bands that ever played a note, but I understand people not liking Lees voice. Would you say that was your biggest gripe about them? Or do you simply not like the songs?

After Argent broke up, Henrit-Verity-Rodford formed this band called Phoenix. It must have been like '77'-78. Horrible! And not at all progressive. I was so bummed. Listened to it, like twice.
The guy that mentioned Steve Hackett's Cured is right. After Sprectral Mornings and Defector it was a horrible disappointment! He's never been as engaging since, but I still buy some of his later stuff. It is not as bad as Cured.
I know people swear by this band, but I can't get into Angel's Egg by Gong. Hilliage was on it and Gong got a lot of hype but after repeated listenings, it just didn't take.
"Stardust are We" by The Flower Kings. I was first exposed to Roine on "My New World" by Transatlantic which is awesome and bought "Space Revolver," which though spotty, had some good stuff (I Am the Sun. Pts. I and II especially). Everybody talked about how great Stradust are We Was, so I bought it. Just too much mediocrity. Gave them one more chance with the "Rainmaker". Disappointed again. Haven't bought another one since. The perfect example that putting down everything you record when you are basically the only writer in the band is not a good idea.

Sorry but I find Dave Grohl (sp?) to be the only member of the band with any real talent.

Jethro Tull - Under Wraps. Too synth pop/new wave and (most importantly) not good synth pop/new wave recordings at that.
Likewise, Renaissance - Camera, Camera, 1st side of ELP's -Love Beach. Early Pendragon. Camel's -a stationary traveller
I am sure there are others like this, particulary when record companies where pressuring Prog Bands to go in a new wave or pop direction.
While I should listen to them again, I did not find the songwriting or performance up to par on Jethro Tull's Too Old for Rock and Rock and Catfish Rising, Caravan's Cunning Stunts. the Third Greenslade recording, Ekseption's 2 disc set containing their first four lps

Prog; Emerson Lake and Palmer's 'In Concert'/ King Crimson's 'Earthbound'- the worst live albums I've ever come across, ever. Also Rick Wakeman's 'Rhapsodies', though it has a few good songs, can go into this 'hall of shame'.
Non prog; one absolutely sticks out for me, and I am thoroughly ashamed of buying it... As I was a fan of Peter Wyngarde's performance as the womanising super sleuth in the 60s/70s TV shows 'Department S' and 'Jason King', I bought his plain bizarre and awful album....probably the worst decision I ever made musically speaking...
