Yeah, but we're SO sloppy on midfield and defense. We need to avoid the many balllosses and letting the enemy walk freely.Sleepy

I fear that we'll lose against argentina
Epic.

I'm a fan of Holland but was not completely satisfied with their performance.

I wouldn't say that, Holland's attack was as strong as I believed it would be, Robben could never find any guy to connect his passes to the center of the area.

Holland's defence was weak, Serbia doesn't have a good attack and Holland was is troubles a couple of times.

But what worried more is that the physicall condition of the team was not good, two players including Van Der Saar  had cramps and that's not normal in the first game, something that could bring them problems against a strong team as Ivory Coast.

Van Basten didn't looked happy at the end of the game, more like worried.

My problem is,did Frings know that the ball would swerve like that? I mean was it his skill or was it more likely that new ball will be giving more and more problems for goalkeepers?

Are you sure this new ball is necessarily swerving more than in previous years? As I recall, at every WC there's a new ball - for commercial reasons - and every time there's one goalie who mentions the possibility of it swerving more than usual.......and then the TV talking heads have to talk about something.......so the hype begins.........as far as Frings's goal goes, the ball was played across him, left to right, and he hit it with the outside of his right boot (I think?) - so far so perfect, the ideal scenario to swing the ball.......and with good technique, you'll swerve any ball like that........I've seen many other long shots move barely an inch (sorry, a centimetre) in other games........I guess the answer is wait and see what the Brazilians do with it Smile ...........if a German midfielder can move the ball like that, one might expect Ronaldinho to look like a balloon sculptor in comparison....Wink

Wow,Holland melted in the sun just like England (though a far superior performance by the Dutch). We now know that Holland are a good team but not a great team.Yet.
Robben played well and only dived once!Serbia were quite toothless in attack though and a better team might have punished the Dutch defence.
Congrats to Markus Merk for booking the Serbian that mimicked "waving the card" in attempt to to get the Dutch player player booked.Clap

Angola V Portugal. Big Phil Scolari has signed a new contract and surely the Portuguese have too much for the Angolans,"colonial derby" or not.

Everybody was positive about the result and emphasized that it great to start with 3 points. Personally I was disappointed about the defensive errors (bad marking), players like Van Persie and Schneijder worked hard but failed to give decisive passes, only Robben was almost brilliant. My conclusion: at this moment were are no more than an outsider, Ivory Coast and Argentina play way more mature and experienced. Perhaps the hot weather was a bit too much for the players, well next Friday Holland plays against Ivory Coast at 1800, then we will see what Holland is worth.

                           AND NOW FUERZA MEXICO !!!!

Mexico appear to have Dracula Syndrome-they hate crosses!

At the moment Iran look like they can score from every set-piece or wing play.
Surely Mexico will get organised at half-time.

Interesting game between Portugal and Angola.
Angola are very powerful but are also very naive in the way they are handling Figo. They seen almost reverential and his surge which created the opening goal is typical of the way that Angola have defended. They are still learning and I have to give them credit as they were quite strong towards halftime.
You cant help feeling that this could still be 5-0 or 5-1 though.

Angola are accesible. What I hate is that Portugal went in stagnation (or unexplainable incapability of scoring) after taking the lead.

Yea.... You knew Angola couldn't really score..... So..... I guess they decided to knock around the ball.

Damn, I was wrong about Netherlands and Serbia, I thought it was going to be 0-0 or 1-0 Serbia.

It was a wrong tactic IMO, ¨Portugal knowing that Angola is a hard and strong team, jumped to the field with too many revolutions trying to score 2 or 3 times before Angola's physical advantage was determinant.

They burnt themselves too fast and there was not fuel for the second half.

Iván

One question:Is Nuno Gomez with the team still? And if he is why he was kept in the bench?

Hey, Brazilian commentators are betting USA will win Czech tomorrow... or at least a draw. Maybe it will be this Monday's big game. Smile
