I don't own any "Prog-Metal", except for Lateralus  Embarrassed. The genre name is an oxymoron, prog has more than one sound, and I think "metal" only has one sound, really.

Call me ignorant, but I agree with Peter on this one. If I need something heavy with angry lyrics and nasty singing, I have all the VDGG in the world. Big smile

I can see now...
you probably prefer Comus more...
but you are missing a lot...
try some 'mainstream' bands

First, Dream Theatre cos' I don't like the band even when many people loves it...
Many Italian Prog bands as Consorzio Acqua Potabile and Ricomandata...

Dead Soul Tribe, Amon Duul II, Pell Mell, Agitatiom Free... but overall an album that I lose the last year: Chris Squire "Fish out of Water"... I still can forgive myself...

I don't have:
any prog-metal - don't like the style.
any neo-prog except 2 of Marillion cd's of which only 1 I like (their first).
I have 2 Rush albums, but I don't care for them.

I have only 6 prog albums which were made after 1981: 2 by Marillion, as I mentioned, 2 by Anglagard (Hybris is amazing!), and 2 recent albums by bands from my country (Ahvak, Sympozion).

I don't have any American prog album! And I'm not planning to get one soon.

Also I don't have any Beatles' album - don't care for them.

I do have though most of the important albums of the big 9 British prog bands (except Jethro Tull - I have only 3 of their albums). You can see which albums I like by looking at my signature. Smile

My all-time favourite album is not in my signature, it's Harmonium's "Si on avait besoin d'une cinqueme saison" - I saw in this thread that many people don't have it - you must get it ASAP! I bought mine from Greg Walker at a reasonable price.

I own NO Rush...

I've heard a lot of rush though, and I really just don't like it
I can strangle a canary in a tin can and it would be really original, but that wouldn't save it from sounding like utter sh*t.

Quite a few, including:

Gentle Giant
Renaissance
Frank Zappa
Jethro Tull
Opeth
...get ready to gasp...
King Crimson

I also own only Marillion's debut album, but nothing beyond that.  As for Gentle Giant, Renaissance, and even Opeth (among other prog-metal bands), I just couldn't get into it.  In fact, Dream Theater may be my ONLY standout prog metal band in my huge collection.  As for Zappa I have a few songs by him, but can't get too much into the material.
