I like it, but it lacks an emotional kick for me to call it awesome.

I cannot say either "like" or "dislike" about the whole subgenre. I'm acquainted only with small amount of jazz-rock/fusion material. Some of it I didn't like. Some of it I have, and I don't buy anything that I don't like.

More than just like it.
It is bands like the ones mentioned below that make me really like this "genre" so much (not always strictly fusion, but always with it in the music):
Mahavishnu Orchestra, John Abercrombie, Aera,Ain Soph, Arti E Mestieri, Boud Deun, Cerebus Effect, Czeslaw Niemen, Deus Ex Machina, Eela Craig, Frogg Cafe, Fulano, Helmet of Gnats, Iceberg, Iman Califato Independiente, KBB, Kenso, Leb I Sol, Maneige, John Mclaughlin , Pat Metheny Group, Morpheus (Ger), Nucleus, Out Of Focus, Perigeo, Jean Luc Ponty, Return to Forever, Secret Oyster, Sloche, Tasavallan Presidentti, A Triggering Myth, Wigwam, Xhol and Zingale among others....

I'm just starting to get into it. My boss is a real fan of Al DiMeola and RTF - he suggested I find a way to check out "Romantic Warrrior". I listened to the samples on PA and was blown away - it's definitely going to be ny next genre to explore.

From what I've heard of the genre it's got its fair share of spectacular albums: Bruford's One of a King Jean-Luc Ponty's Enigmatic Oceans Al DiMeola's Elegant Gyspy And then you can't deny Zappa's excursions into jazz.

Honestly...I believe this is a flawed poll.
There are great, good, average and bad bands in Fusion as in any other musical expression.
Loving or hating a complete sub-genre is a little less than absurd, not to say futile and limitating, unless it's Gangsta Rap

not exactly, IMHO... Fusion is a kind of "on the edge" genre, just a little inside than prog-electronic. many people may not like it, not to mention its characteristic of being an "acquired taste"...
before I forget, there's also "prog metal" which many may (or may not!) despise; as far as I remember you weren't even considering this genre "prog" Ivan; am I wrong ?
as for me, I started to "acquire" the taste in the last couple of years... along with "kraut-jazz", many great fusion acts are among my top 100 (I can't complie a smaller list ) I can't say "I love it", but I certainly like it; a lot...

Listen to Turkish psych/prog; you won't regret: Baris Manco,Erkin Koray,Cem Karaca,Mogollar,3 Hürel,Selda,Edip Akbayram,Fikret Kizilok,Ersen (and Dadaslar) (but stick with the '70's, and 'early 80's!)

I like jazz elements, but all jazz is not my cup of tea. I voted "liking" it.
I found the jazz via 72-74 KING CRIMSON, as I started to appreciate BILL BRUFORD as the best muscian at that line-up (though all of them are great), and started to check out his recent solo jazz records. The accessible "If Summer Had It's Ghosts" opened my eyes, and the my friend introduced me to PAT METHENY.

Love it. It is one of the most rewarding genres as far as musicianship and virtuosity are concerned! Having said that - it's probably an acquired taste for people who prefer subdued and emotive music.

I like it, but there is a certain danger to the genrè. it can become a fest of mindless showing off of instrumental skills. Al Dimeola's "Elegant Gipsy" is an example for that, in my opinion. all in all I prefer European fusion to American. American fusion has a tendency towards the mentioned danger

Jazz Rock (European) and Fusion (US) are markedly different.
The first includes Mahavishnu, Soft Machine, Nucleus, Bruford, Brand X, Pierre Moerlen's Gong etc. whilst the latter is more of sophisticated elevator music performed by Spyro Gyra, Grover Washington Jr. Frank Gambale (an Australian), Scott Henderson, etc.
Of Al DiMeola's Elegant Gypsy is of more Latin with spirited improvisations and would suit Jazz Rock, rather than Fusion. Stanley Clarke's early albums were also in the Jazz Rock vein until he opted for brassy Funk later.
Jazz Fusion is a too broad term to use IMO. In my world Jazz Rock rules!

Love it. Be it as relaxing and classy as Bruford or energetic and showy as Wooten/ Bailey
