James Labrie live is absolutely dreadful.

If it ain't broke don't break it.

Nick D'virgilo (sp?)--Neal Morse's replacment in Spock's Beard. His voice is lackluster to say the least. Spock's Beard should try and recruit a new vocalist.

I have to agree with Garion81 here.  Lumping Lake, I. Anderson and Plant in here isn't right.  They may or may not be "good" now, but at one point, they were.  I would agree that they're not as good as they once were, though, but they're not the worst by any stretch.

As far as Neal Morse goes, the guy can sing, but I too have always felt there was a bit of a boybandish quality to his vocals, which bothers me when I'm listening to V.  I don't think he's awful, but his vocal quality isn't exactly my favorite.

Now Steve Howe . . .Dead  I haven't had the pleasure of really hearing him sing by himself, but I can tell just by the way the Yes backup vocals are that he would not be my cup of tea by any stretch.  I have all the respect in the world for the guy as a guitarist and a songwriter, and I would even go as far as to say he's probably my absolute favorite rock guitarist, but as a vocalist . . . Shocked   Fortunately, he blends alright with Squire and J. Anderson surprisingly well.

Latimer from Camel is okay as far as I'm concerned.  Of course, you don't really hear him that often, so it's hard to tell.  The best vocalist out of that group in my opinion was actually the late Pete Bardens.  Listen to "Spirit of the Water" off of Moonmadness if you don't know what I'm talking about.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, let's keep the criticism constructive, and avoid personal insults. Remember that many of the singers mentioned in this thread are members of bands who are highly revered in these parts.

So far, the discussion appears to have been largely superficial, with people simply saying they don't like a singer's voice. There is a significant difference between someone not singing to your personal taste, and someone singing badly.

That dude from Eloy. I don't own any Eloy of course, but whenever I hear the samples at the place thing, I'm always struck by the cool music...then start giggling when I hear the German Dude.

HA! You thought I was gonna say Johnny Boy Anderson, didn't you? Nope. I'm not gonna mention his ear splitting robo-voice. Or the fact that I'm listening to Starship Trooper right now.

ashame about howe, the guy obviously loves to extress himself..the closest thing to decent is "all a chord" on his steve howe album 79, he was smart to only incude this on and it adds to the overall album, I think so anyway,

okay: Steve Howe is indeed terrible. Who ever told this guy he could sing???

And I have to agree with those who mention James LaBrie - solely his singing on Ayreon's THE is rather okay.
Howe 's worst track ever: Australia......

Cedric Bixler-Zavala of The Mars Volta really annoys me. It's a little bit noisy...a little...extreme pop sounding. LaBrie is also disastrous when he goes high - especially on soft songs.

About James LaBrie... He's really one of my favourite vocalists, but some times... some times, it's just a bit too much for me. For a good example, anywhere on the Score DVD where he sticks his tongue out of his mouth sounds somewhat bad to me. Most of the time, though, I adore his voice and his singing.
