Did you see him last tour? Wink He was spot on.

He did have damaged vocal chords due to food poisoning in '94 and didn't recover fully until about 2003.

Was that guy Fxxxing kidding? Richard Sinclair is an INCREDIBLE vocalist! For shame! As for the Wyatt diss, I can't even bring myself to comment on that.

it should say 'vocalist i don't like or such rather than worst vocalist...' good or bad it's all subjective you know... and the comments are quite nasty either...
The devil we blame our atrocities on is really just each one of us.

I do feel bad that so many prog greats are losing their once stellar voices. Case in point, Ian Anderson. His vocals with Tull were unbelievable, but now every song he performs just Dead. He can't do it anymore, and no matter how much I love him, it just needs to stop.

Geoff Tate & everyone who sounds like him. Really !

Amen! Thank you! Don't get me wrong, I used to really like Tate. But, If anybody sounds even remotely like him(and there's thousands) it makes me wan't to vomit. Any of the operatic type stuff is really a turn off. I'd take Akerfeldt from Opeth without the cookie monster vocals any day over all of these singers. Truly good singers are very rare.

You hit it on the nail. Great to have singer with a great vocal range, but opera is not a Rock genre, & that over the top vocal style is not my preference. I love Bruce Dickinson, I liked Rob Halford once he quit with the highpitched yelps, and I can take some over emoting, but , & this is not to denigrate the music, but the operatic vocals just distract me enough that I can't even take the music. For those who remember Mercyful Fate, I always thought it a shame about their vocalist/frontman/star. They had decent riffs, if only they had someone to sing the songs in a more straightforward manner, & without the Satanistic B.S. .

Lee Jackson on Refugee album. Especially in contrast to Moraz's brilliant work. And Steve Howe of course...

Ugh, I hate negative threads like this, they only bring out the worst in people and they aren't constructive most of the time.

Ian Anderson never was a great vocalist (like Plant, Gillan etc). In on of the interviews Ian explained that he started to sing only because others in the band sang even worse than he. But Ian's voice was always instantly recognizable - both in early Tull and now. In case of Ian "individuality" is a key word, so I don't see the reason for him to stop.
Who are you and who am I to say we know the reason why... (D. Gilmour)

I read it myself on another thread that true forum ultras got promoted to Honorary Collaborators & such. The higher in current rank ==> the greater the conversion ==> the greater hooligan in past, eh? Wink

this thread reminded me how much of a target DT tends to be around here LOL

as for vocalists I dislike....erm....I give everyone their fair chance and no one's really thrown me off a ton. However, some vocalists whom I think aren't on their best are

Ray Adler: it pains me to say this but when he first joined Fates Warning, on the album No Exit the vocals were like Geoff Tate kicked in the ballsPinch however he has improved vastly with time, his vocals were one of the highlights for me on FWX (and there wasn't much going for that album in the first place)

Aaron Ross: as much as I love "There's No 666 in Outer Space", every time I listen I keep thinking that the vocals could be doing a lot more than they are. It's like the vocal melodies kind of lag behind the breakneck speed of the rest of the band. As for his singing, it doesn't bother me I guess, its more the melodies that he comes up with.

that's all for nowEmbarrassed keep in mind I still like both of these vocalists, but everyone has their weak points

Since people have mentioned non-prog vocalists, why not bring up Stevie Nicks ? She sounds like a frggin' goat.
Fire up the flux capacitor ! We're taking this Delorean through all four dimensions.

What is the future of prog ? Genesis reunion ? I'm not telling! That could upset the thyme/space continuum.

IMO Stevie Nicks doesn't have a superb vocal range, but SHE CAN REALLY SING,

Has a nice voics and puts a lot of her in every song,  Fleetwood Mac wouldn't exist since three decades ago without her.

Now, who mentoioned Chris Squire?

For God's sake, his backing vocals are better than Jon Anderson's main ones, he's probably among the 5 or 6 best backing vocalists in Prog with Phil Collins (Just don't call the shorty as frontman and forbid him to write music).

Good point, Iván... amongst so many "worst" or "terrible" polls I cannot remember a single one about "good backing vocals". Smile

OMG !!! Who is this impersonator of Ivan Melgar complimenting Phil Collins ? Pretty soon he'll be throwing compliments at Trevor Rabin !

Seriously, I'm with you on this one Ivan- Squire and Collins are among the best backing vocalists in prog. They both had a knack for complimenting Anderson and Gabriel's lead.
