I've really come to love this band in the last while. Their unusual compositions/lyrics/presentation create a totally unique and refreshing atmosphere. They're currently my favourite non-prog rock band, and they're Canadian to boot! Anyone else know 'em?

I do. I have their Funeral album and it's a good album to listen to every know and then. It's been a while since I played it, but I do remember liking it.

I think you might already know by now, but if you haven't then check out Bell Orchestre. It's the band's side project. Wonderful music in here as well.

If you hadn't started an Arcade Fire thread, I would have.  I'm quite impressed by this band, both their albums are very good.

I haven't gotten a chance to hear the new one, yet, but once I get a job, I plan to buy it. (I wish they were PR, then I could review their albums!)

Known them for a while now, found their first album, "Funeral" quite interesting, but a bit uneven, with great songs (Rebelion not being one of them Dead). The new album was a big dissapointment, mostly mediocre songs compared to what they had done in funeral, the only exception being Intervention and My Body Is A Cage...

I've heard a few songs, and they strike me as one of the few true 'Indie' bands left. Following in the footsteps of The Pixes, Dinosaur jr, and early REM, although a little more creative perhaps. They are on my list of bands to investigate after I saw a documentary on them on UK TV. At the end of the program they played an excellent though very strange, and unplugged version of 'Guns of Brixton' by The Clash, in the lobby of the Brixton Academy where they were playing that night.

I love The Arcade Fire. I bought Funeral on a whim when it first came out and I have follwed them since. I prefer Funeral to Neon Bible, but the latter is growing on me. Except for maybe The White Stripes, I'd say they're my favorite non-prog band at this moment

The words on that cover are very true.

I love Arcade Fire. Funeral is probably my favourite album by them, but their self-titled EP is very good too. I haven't listened enough to Neon Bible to really form an opinion of it.

Bell Orchestre are very good too. One of my favourite Post-Rock bands.

Neon%20Bible
.... I had some money left at Montreal airport and I bought "The Neon Bible" out of curiosity , a great record ...takes some time to get used to their music but highly rewarding "No Cars Go" is a fantastic track!

BTW they are playing next week in a Parasian suburb together with Tool and Björk

Sorry, I had trouble understanding that. Did you just say that you think they're boring just because the critics love them?

I've listened to a few things by them after all the hype and tried to get into them. Personally I think they're a bit over-rated.

You know how Prog fans are...

Yeah but they're not very popular with radio and TV stuff, just critics. I'm sure if they was on the 'chives he'd have a different perspective............

But yes, I do know how prog fans are.

That's like a more negative take on my perception of them Wink I thought their first album was excellent and their second pretty good, but My Body is definitely a highlight.
