By the way, that's the first song from Rush that I was really in love with (Distant Early Warning)... Very good choice ... P.S. i'm listening it right now ...

I've never experienced a more heartfelt relief than the day I listened to the first song sample out of S&A (Far Cry) and immediately knew that this was going to be great!

I listened to Snakes And Arrows the other day and it just gets better and better. Definitely one of the best discs I bought last year.

S&A not only has stood the test of time with me, it has become one of my favorite Rush albums. While I haven't heard if they are going back to the studio by year's end, most likely due to the new tour, I would not be at all disappointed if they chose to follow-up S&A with something along the same lines. The revisit to their roots has provided some excellent music, be it Prog or not.

In general, I like hard sound very much... That is one of the reasons why this is one of the first prog bands I tried... Very different, they are story for themselves... I think that main reason for that is Geddy Lee, fantastic band locomotive ... His energy is marvelous, moving... My favorite Rush albums are from late '80 (from "Grace under pressure" to "Roll the Bones")...

You couldn't choose better than A Farewell to Kings IMO ........and then you'll need Hemispheres. |
I would agree for the most part. Rush has many different sounds. They progressed their sound, even if their writing style might have changed to something not so Progressive. But never has Rush "sold out".

I just happened to be on the All Music Guide, and Signals is the Album of the Day. Not sure how much an honor that is, but it appears that 2007 was the 25th anniversary of this excellent album.

Man, this thread is still chuggin' along. Hope you had a great time at the Rush show, Raff. Saw them in August and they just blew the doors off the place. And the best part, the new stuff sounded great and fit perfectly alongside the classics. I loved how they came out after intermission and jammed S&A right down your throat.
I need to find out how to upload the photo I had taken with Alex and Geddy prior to the show. Anyone know how I can do that?
Oh, and by the way, you won't find a nicer person than Alex. Completely genuine and greets you with the biggest smile. As a thank you to Hugh Syme for getting us the backstage passes, I sent him a copy of the new Marillion (loves Afraid Of Sunlight, but has lost touch with them), and the latest Blackfield.

That would be cool to hear them playing Here Again. I wonder if they are working on it for their next tour, or if they plan on throwing it in somewhere on this tour. I know in seeing some of the posts of playlists they have been changing up a song or two here or there to keep it interesting.

It is probably too early to start this discussion since Snakes and Arrows is still fresh off the presses and is still being presented live for the first time on a nightly basis via their tour but I can't wait to hear their next release. I am definitely hoping that there isn't another 5 years before their next new release since they did a fantastic job with Snakes and Arrows and hopefully this is a sign that they've got their creative juices flowing again. It is just that as always I am already craving new material from the guys. Have there been any indications from them on what their plans are following their tour? I imagine that they will probably roll the bones and let fate decide what their next move is. |
I feel the same way. You guys may not like this, but I'd rather they put out material quicker and tour every two albums. I know this would never happen but I can't get enough new Rush.
Side note: Surfing the Rush websites yesterday, I read somewhere that one of the songs they are soundchecking with...get this...Here Again. Man would I love to be a fly on the wall for that!

Nice review. It sounds like they are still giving some awesome performances. Definitely enjoyed the show when they played here in Michigan back in August.
Look at that. My most recently played song is your forum name Ghost Rider.

Well, since this is a thread for all Rush fans, I'll indulge in a spot of self-advertising, and refer you all to my review of the Milan show. They were brilliant in 2004, but last Tuesday they surpassed themselves.
