If anyone has ever heard a deerhoof album, they would recognize it immediately as prog. There are many obvious references to Crimson and Yes on every album. And what's better is everyone in they're band is just sick with it. Drummer is absolutely phenomenal. Listen to the "milk man" or "Revielle" albums and you will be sold on they're necessity to this site before the first thirty seconds are up.
-Just tryin to make sure everyones modern prog experience is complete. -Del P.S. Battles is on here. Saw them twice live, I wouldn't miss them if they come by... Same with the Fiery Furnaces. |

Deerhoof is a band that I've been looking to get into more. I think this post might have convinced me

If you want Deerhoof evaluated, could you post a thread in the Suggest New Artists section - with an indication of what subgenre they belong to from your point of view? The Genre Teams will take it from there (and I'll remind them if they don't).

This is the second thread you started about missing bands ... and both sound like complaints. Please don't deduce from the fact that a band is missing that we don't want it here ... there are thousands of bands in the archives, and the genre teams have evaluated hundreds of bands in this year alone (have a look at http://ratingfreak.com/home/progarchives.xhtml).

The best suggestion - for both bands you've posted about! |

If you want a genre suggestion, I'd recommend Deerhoof for placement in either eclectic or crossover and emphatically not for post-rock or math-rock.

Every band save Brittany Spears or Linkin Park will be included someday. If they even heard of Crimson they seem to be called prog and included.
When the site started raiding the Indie blogs (the Decemberists? Come on) all bets were off. Lets include Fiest or Belle and Sebastian who share Deerhoofs fan base. This site is so all over the place I feel sorry for a newbe who wants to know what prog actually is! Please do not clutter this site anymore, but that plea falls on deaf ears. Do not worry Dearhoof will eventually be included along with almost every other band on the planet. |

This goes in the Suggest New Bands/Artists section.
When making a thread, please take the time to think about where to properly place it.The Progressive Music Lounge is for bands in the archives ONLY.

Hey, I didn't quite catch the irony of your message, but it seems like a complaint to something. If these two bands are not fit for inclusion, they won't be added! |

I read about them once in Rolling Stone. They sounded interesting, but I never followed up on them. Probably because I don't really trust Rolling STone to know what good music is, but I may check them out in the future.

Come on Broken Social Scene and Sufjan Stevens! Although to be fair, this site did get me into Woven Hand. |

BTW, "they're" = "they are"
(The word you want is "their" -- no offense, but many people would take a post like this more seriously with proper spelling of such simple words.)

Got a suggestion on the (sub)genre of prog you would want to see them in? That would help getting your request to the right people... |

I think they may fit well in RIO / Avant-Prog or one of the Art Rock genres.

Along with Deerhoof, someone could add Gorge Trio as well... I'm pretty sure they have members of Deerhoof.

Instead of putting down people's work, you could try an alternative - leaving the site altogether, if you have such a poor opinion of it. Personally, I'd recommend you look at other prog sites if you really want to see what 'all over the place' means. Sorry to sound confrontational, but I firmly believe our own opinions can be expressed without sounding so aggressive, even insulting, as you did in the above post. |
