Topic: U2 vs Coldplay Posted: January 16 2008 at 16:46 |
It looks to me like Dream Theater vs Symphony X poll, wich is absolutely stupid; however, I heard that many U2 fans turned out completely at Coldplay... So, who do YOU prefer?

there was a similar poll some time ago; no contest honestly, U2 is a lot better than Coldplay.

Let's see....
Boy, October, War, The Unforgettable Fire, Joshua Tree (some-what "meh"), Achtung Baby (a little morre some-what "meh"), Zooropa (actually good!), Pop (better than they say!).
So those albums (most of which are extremely great) vs......
Coldplay hasn't brought anything to the table.

U2 of course.
So far Coldplay have not had the chance to 'progress' in the way that U2 have, being a relatively young band. One thing is for sure, Coldplay will have to 'review' their formula at some point, because after 3 (?) albums they are becoming very predictable. I have their first two albums, but stopped listening to them a long time ago.

don't like either. U2 are one of the most overrated bands of all time, in my opinion. I can't stand the attitude of Bono. and neither do I like Mr. Two Chords aka The Edge

Bono gets on my nerves too. He seems to think he is the saviour of the people. What he doesn't realise, is that if people like him actually made a difference to how the world was run, they would be dodging the assassins bullets every day. He's a pop star, and a fashion accessory for slick politicians. Nothing more..

Yeah, people who promote feeding the hungry, and ending war, are really bad for society.
|
I dont have a problem with him wanting to end world hunger. I want to end world hunger too, but unlike Bono I dont believe that I can.
You can stage as many concerts as you like, wear a different wrist band each day to pledge your support for a cause, but the reality remains; global politics is controlled by people who benefit enormously from keeping half the world in hunger. No pop star will ever change that. I dont believe that someone like Bono is so niaeve that he genuinely thinks he makes a difference, so I have to assume he is an ego maniac.

Oh no - that's good; what's bad is a multi millionaire blatantly using such causes for self-promotion only.

Meanwhile, back on thread...
U2 vs Coldplay, eh?
Chris Martin did disappear up his own earlier in his career than Bono, but Bono's been doing it longer...
Hmmm - tough call

I like both, but U2 by a long shot.
I've heard that Brian Eno is producing the next Coldplay.

I don't like either, but I'd have to pick U2. A lot more interesting, I'd imagine. Coldplay seems kind of one-dimensional, plus I had a biology teacher that was a Coldplay fan-girl and claimed that they were "the new Beatles."

An ego maniac, maybe, but the point is he uses his popularity to make a little bit of a difference, which is cool. I don't like his music though, still better than Coldplay.

I'd throw Travis in with them, then I'd lock the door and throw away the key.
