Topic: Which version of "Let it be" (The Beatles) Posted: March 03 2008 at 19:35 |
I need to know which of these versions of Let it Be you recomend me.
Knowing that I really like Let it Be's original cover, is there really a major difference of sound quality or production? Please cause I think Let it Be's original cover is a classic just like Abbey Road's, so please tell me?

I like the NAKED version...less wall of sound, clearer sound...a good alternative to the original. I've got both.
A good idea of sir Paul who was the main composer at this time of the life of the Beatles.

Probably the original, but if they took out "Get Back" on the redo, I'd give it to that.

Wash you're mouth out boy!
NOT NEGOTIABLE.
That is a rockin' classic and stays where it is.

Get Naked if you want to hear it as God intended. Get the Phil Spector version if you want to know what a gun-totin, wig-wearing freak can do when some geniuses decide to throw in the towel.

I voted for Naked, though the original strongly evokes a particular place and time for me that Naked cannot. However, if you weren't around back then you probably wouldn't miss that. Supposedly the entire catalog is being redone, so you might want to wait and see which version actually gets the remastering treatment and the 'official' Apple seal of approval. I still have the original LP + the original CD + Naked so I'm not necessarily reliable on this. Never trust anyone over 30.

The original is good because it has all that studio chatter, but Spector ruined it with all the harps and string overdubs and yada yada. Naked is great and much more down to earth, and it comes with a bonus disc of pure studio chatter.

So sick of the song, but the original Let it Be version is much nicer. So thats one more point against Paul

I always liked the Let it be album one of my favorite Beatles album, it was actualy the first beatles album i ever heard when i was very small and that might be a reason. And i stick with the orginal with its grand strings. I like my music pompous, selfindulgent and overblown..

So get the original, warts and all. That way, you get the original cover. You get what was the original listening experience. You get some great songs, some of which were untouched by SPECTRE. Naked is after all a newcomer to the Beatles' catalog.

Let It Be is my favorite Beatle album and "Naked" is the way you should experience it. I hope you will read my review where I will explain why.

Yikes, having read your review now you're selling me on Naked
And I'm not the one who needs selling since I already have both. As I voted it is the superior version. But I think we can argue that for a newcomer to the Beatles albums the original does have merit. Any Beatles fan probably should have both. For me, this is probably just a reflection of the original English LP's vs. the American versions. I need to have both, since Capitol did such a great job of botching the whole thing back in the '60s.

Let it Be was fantastic. Naked was the way greedy Paul wanted it heard, and that is all.

I haven't heard enough of Naked to really say for sure, but all I know is that I find myself quite fond of the original, and even though the 'spector' (pun intended) of Phil Spector looms over the original recording with his over-produced string addition and whatnot, I feel that is what made the songs special for me to begin with. It is really a matter of prefferance, but I will always find myself wanting to listen to the original more often than the new, mainly because I am more used to it and accept it as the definitive version, even if it is in fact not.

Although I took your advice, experienced it in the nude and caught a cold - I still vote for "Naked"!

Get the original first. That's what I did. I think the Naked version has pros and cons.
But with the original first, it's more like the history knew the album...
