Well, this will probably be a small party looking at the general comments on this subgenre but who knows.

We'll try anyway. If you can't come up with 25 great albums (no problem for me but not everyone's a neo freak Tongue) 10 is ok too or even 5 or 3. See what you can do, anything is welcome.

Here's mine:

1. Not of this World-Pendragon
2. Moonshine-Collage
3. A Street between sunrise and sunset-Satellite
4. Skeem-Skeem
5. More Grains of Sand-Clepsydra
6. The Visitor-Arena
7. Crossroad-Apple Pie
8. Alone-Clepsydra
9. Into the Night-Satellite
10. Under a new Sign-Knight Area
11. Across the Water-Jadis
12. Fears-Clepsydra
13. Evening Games-Satellite
14. Masquerade Overture-Pendragon
15. More than meets the Eye-Jadis
16. Milliontown-Frost*
17. Safe-Collage
18. Subterranea-IQ
19, Imageness-Ageness
20. Children-Iluvatar
21. Empires never last-Galahad
22. Seventh House-IQ
23. Escaping from the hands of God-Saens
24. From Land to Ocean-Galleon
25. Rainchild-Like Wendy

This is a list of all the prog rock albums that I tagged "Neo" ... it's not all strictly neo prog though, at least not by PA genre definitions.Embarrassed

This may come off as incredibly biased but here's my top five:

1. Misplaced Childhood - Marillion
2. Brave - Marillion
3. Script for a Jester's Tear - Marillion
4. Fugazi - Marillion
5. Clutching at Straws - Marillion

That may have something to do though with me not listening to the genre apart from that band though.

1. Twelfth Night - Fact & Fiction
2. Marillion - Clutching at Straws
3. IQ - Seventh House
4. Magenta - Seven
5. Abel Ganz - Shooting Albatross
6. Marillion - Script for a Jester's Tear
7. Arena - Contagion
8. Marillion - Afraid of Sunlight
9. Illuvatar - Children
10. IQ - Tales from the Lush Attic
11. Fish - Vigil in a Wilderness of Mirrors
12. Fish - 13th Star
13. Matthew Parmenter - Horror Express
14. Marillion - This Strange Engine
15. IQ - Dark Matter
16. Fish - Sunsets on Empire
17. Pendragon - The Jewel
18.  Jadis - More Than Meets the Eye
19. Twelfth Night - Live and Let Live
20. IQ - Subterranea
21. Marillion - Season's End
22. Fish - Raingods with Zippos
23. Arena - The Visitor
24. Sylvan - Posthumous Silence
25. Gazpacho - Night

I have to give honorable mention to two albums which I consider neo, but which the site lists differently.  Both of these albums would rate in my top 10 of the neo albums.  Everon's Flood (listed under heavy prog) and Discipline's Unfolded Like Staircase (under Symph).

#2 Script for a Jester's Tear - Marillion
#3 Masquerade Overture - Pendragon
#5 The World - Pendragon

special mention to "This Strange Engine" it is a great album that I find difficult to get into yet rewarding when I do - unfortunately it didn't make my Top-25 because it's not a CD I can play anytime I like - I have to be receptive to it to really like it, which is a shame because it's one of the proggiest things they've done.

Two I haven't tried yet, but have piqued my curiosity are Martin Orford's latest and Satellite's Into The Night.

I have this "problem" with the band's total discography. I'm almost ashamed of it, a neo lover not liking Marillion but problem is Script and Misplaced Childhood are their two best efforts in my opinion and they barely got 4 stars in my reviews. After Fish's departure it only got worse for me. I respect all Marillion fans and I also accept the fact that Marillion is the leading neo band. Regard it as my personal taste making some sort of mistake but I felt this my whole life (since 1983 to be more specific) and it will not change ever I'm afraid. Sorry, Marillion.

Great band, yes. I guess it tends to be a bit overlooked since Clive Nolan joined Arena. I saw Shadowland once in Amsterdam, and they were good, but it was too bad that there was almost no audience. I had the same experience with Pallas, by the way. Hopefully they found themselves a larger audience by now.
